Roamio stuck on "Welcome" screen -- new HD didn't help

Have a Roamio Basic (500 GB) about 2 1/2 years old, old WD expander hooked up, lifetime service. Turned on the TV the other day to see the "Wecome! Starting up" screen. Left it on for about 20 min, but it never got past that screen. Uplugged and tried again. After 40 min, still no progress. Green circle is lit, that screen stays up for about 25-30 sec, then everything flashes, then it starts again. Unplugged at least 5 more times, leaving it off up to 12 hours between tries, but it never got any further. Also tried booting with various combinations of peripherals unplugged or removed (in the case of CableCard), all the way up to having only the power in. Nothing.

So, I attempted some "fixes":

1) I tried a laptop power supply that puts out 120-240V @ 2.5A, but same behavior.

2) I opened the unit and made sure all connections to the HD and power were secure. Everything looked and felt good, although I'm obviously not an electrician or PC expert. Didn't solder anything, in other words :-)

3) Next, I tested the HD on my PC (SeaTools from Seagate) with a USB dock. Failed both the long and short generic tests, but passed the "Quick" test. Uh oh, right?

4) Figured it was fried, so I threw a WD Red 3TB in there just now, but I'm getting the exact same behavior after 25 minutes.

Anybody got ideas for me? I have SquareTrade on it, but I only paid like $100 for the thing originally which won't buy me much of anything -- and the Roamio Basic isn't even available anymore. I'm also super bummed I might lose Lifetime after less than 3 years.

Edit 1: Tried the power adapter from my TA (Cisco STA 1520) and nada.

Edit 2: Tivo CS replied to my email from yesterday to basically say that, "Unfortunately, All In Service (is that what they call lifetime now?) cannot be transferred...but you should buy a new Tivo and invest upfront again because the technology just keeps improving!"

"Remembering Prince" in Title Bar

I just wanted to offer kudos to TiVo for putting together a "Remembering Prince" in the title bar so quickly yesterday. Selecting it, resulted in a whole bunch of cool videos. I selected one at random (non-movie/TV) and ended up with a wonderful HD YouTube video of his 2007 Super Bowl performance.

Was wondering if TiVo provides a second update to everyone's TiVo if something unexpected happens in the world after everyone's early morning connection is done and over with?

Game of Thrones - Season 6 To Do List Problem

I was just checking my To Do list. My OnePass for GOT is recording all airings of all episodes as opposed to only recording the first aired episode. I checked my OnePass and it is set to "New Only." It's behaving like it's set to "All Episodes" which would include repeats. So it's has it recording the episode something like 10 times.

This is for both s06e01 and s06e02 for right now.

Is anybody else seeing this?

Bootup issue - swap for a replacement Roamio?

Had a really brief power outage the other night and in the morning I discovered my Roamio Pro apparently stuck in a reboot loop. Nothing on the screen, and the green and yellow LEDs inside the unit on solid. Tried power cycling it multiple times, turned it off for 30 minutes and tried again, but just could not get it to boot. I finally ended up calling TiVo support and while I was waiting to speak with a tech I tried one more power cycle and it immediately booted up normally.

The tech I spoke with said it was likely a hard drive issue and that it can take multiple power cycle events to repair drive damage, assuming it's a recoverable error. I pressed him a bit on this and asked if there was any way to see what the unit was doing when it was "stuck", or force a drive check (I assume a standard fsck runs after a dirty shutdown?) on the next bootup and he told me to do the "Pause 5-4" sequence if it happens again and that would force the unit into a diagnostic mode.

After all that I asked what the odds are that this would happen again, and what my options were for a repair/replacement. Because the Roamio is 11 months old he offered a replacement for $49.00. So... based on my symptoms and the $49.00 offer, would you swap units, or just keep what you have?

This is the first hardware issue I've seen, and not sure whether it's a one-off event or a warning sign of more trouble to come (which of course will happen when I'm out of warranty).

Thoughts/suggestions?

Orphan Black 4/21/16 Transgressive Border Crossing

That place is too sleek and modern to be a real comic book shop. ;)

Nice to see Cosima again. May she live long and prosper! Maybe they could do a Cosima spin-off show? Orphan Geek? She could team up with M.K.

And the flashbacks continue! I think they had to, really...the Maggie Chen stuff really needs to be resolved, and this is the best way to do it.

Donnie and Helena make just the sweetest couple! And fortunately there are safe positions they can use. And now I know how to tell if twins are identical from an ultrasound.

I had to laugh when Felix covered his nipples instead of his dick.

Not really my kind of nightclub. Not that any kind of nightclub is really my kind of nightclub, but if there were my kind of nightclub, that wouldn’t be it.

M.K., by the way, is a character from the Orphan Black: Helsinki comic book series.

Any idea if/when Tivo out-of-home streaming will be part of T-Mobile's Binge On?

Subject really says it all.

I am trying to figure a way to stream recorded and live video from my TiVo Roamio Pro to my Android tablet using a T-Mobile hotspot (specifically because of T-Mobile's "Binge On" feature, where streamed music and video does not count against a person's cellular data usage).

It looks like a Slingbox M1 and M2 will work, as "Slingbox" is listed in the video providers at T-Mobile:

http://ift.tt/1T2vy0H

But TiVo is NOT listed.

Anyway, sure seems like TiVo streaming via "Binge On" would be terrific....so...anyone heard if TiVo might be offered thru Binge On anytime soon? (T-Mobile does not charge the providers anything to "hook up".)

Thanks...
