Bolt after the "free" 1 year service

What are people doing with their Bolts after the included first year of service?

I bought a BOLT for about the price of 1 year service because I wanted to try out some of its features (skip mode, stream, faster CPU, faster Ethernet). But I found out that I don't really use stream and the other features are not noticeably better than the 2 Roamios I have. I was pretty much going to let the Bolt service lapse and have it sitting in a closet until my old TiVo-HD (which I gave to my parents) died.

I might be tempted to get some sort of service on the BOLT and have my parents use it if there is some good deal. Has anyone gotten any good deals for their Bolts after the included service has expired?

Non-lifetime TiVo-HD

Is there a use for non-lifetime TiVo-HDs? Can you still get service for it if you sell it?

I have a lifetime TiVo-HD that has died. I think it is the power supply and maybe bad caps. I do not want to invest too much in fixing it because the machine is old. So I am looking for an older TiVo-HD to scrounge for parts. I saw someone who is trying to sell a TiVo-HD (I presume non-lifetime) for $40 (that is ~$30 more than I want to pay). I was just wondering if the guy can actually sell it and have the new user activate it because on my TiVo page it says "No other service plans are available for this device" on my lifetime Tivo-HD.

Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X - Premiere OAD 9/21/2016

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad Survivor is back!

The Millennials v Gen X concept is a bit weak, but the cast for both tribes seems to be fairly solid. As always, it'll be a couple weeks (at least) before I really get a handle on the names and personalities. Still, I'm hopeful for a fun season.

The evacuation seemed a bit overblown until the tree came down on the shelter. I wonder if the island they're staying on is the same one seen in the overhead shots at the very beginning. It looked like just a tiny spit of rock in the middle of the ocean.

Dalton has a Q&A with Jeff where he asks about the evac and what was done with the contestants for the duration. He also answers a couple questions about the twist and how it's passed along if the holder is voted out.

transfer non-tivo computer files to Tivo

How do I do this? These are mp4 or wmv files.

Does Tivo Stream embargo content now?

I've noticed that starting a few weeks ago there are some shows that can't be downloaded (or transferred) from my tivo to my ios unless I wait a number of days or when a subsequent episode arrives.

For example, last night my Tivo recorded the final episode of season 2 of Mr. Robot. Here I am the morning afternoon attempting to download (actually transfer) the episode from my Tivo to my ios (running ios8, yes I know 10 is available, I think 8 is great, but anywho) where I am greeted with a disabled Download button. Curiously, the "watch now" button is also disabled.

From my experience, when this has happened in the recent past, I know that if I just wait a few days and be patient, I will eventually be given an enabled download button. I don't know if it's a time based sequence (wait n days) or an event based sequence (wait for another episode), but it's kind of annoying.

Am I confused? Does anyone else have this issue?

"Designated Survivor" - Pilot OAD 9/21/16

Wow, surprised that no one has posted anything yet.

Even though I'd seen most of the opening sequence from trailers (Kirkman in the secure location, on the phone with his daughter; TV feed of the SOTU address fizzing out; Secret Service agents bursting in; Kirkman looking out the window at the explosion in the distance), it still had dramatic heft.

The pilot looks like it had a lot of money spent on it, instead of trying to get by with as few extras as possible (ahem "Blindspot").

I thought Kiefer Sutherland was quite good and managed not to evoke Jack Bauer.

I fear that the subplot with the son is going to be as welcome as Kim Bauer and the mountain lion.

Overall, I was impressed by the pilot and look forward to the show. But I also remember that ABC has had a number of high concept serialized dramas in recent years that have had outstanding pilots and yet collapsed within a year - "Flashforward" and "V" as the most obvious examples. Hope this one goes a different way.

Possible bad Mini

I just bought a Tivo OTA device and a mini, after getting it all setup it worked great for a few days, then all of a sudden the TiVo mini can't find the media room dvr, trying to force connection, it says it can't find dhcp server when I run network tests. I have changed out the network switches in an attempt to fix it. No luck rebooting it makes it work for about 5 minutes then it just freezes mid stream and says lost connection.

At this point I think the network port is bad on the mini, I have tested the cable it reports good.

I wanted to know before I exchange the Mini with amazon as defective, if this is known issue and that I should be using MoCa or should Ethernet work, like it did for a few days.
