known hdmi issue with Samsung tv

I find it hard to believe TiVo doesn't ask what tv you're connecting a new box to. The reason they should ask is there are known issues with hdmi connections (Samsung), and better to address these issues before the box is shipped and the customer has to research what is happening and then be faced with returning the new box.
