I don't understand why they had no generator capability whatsoever to power a little refrigerator for the samples. Not even a portable.
Letting the samples actually sink to and rest on the ocean floor sounded enormously risky.
What is the crew capacity of a destroyer? 3000 gallons of water, properly rationed, sounded to me like it would have been enough to last the number of people that I see in the show.
