Hey folks, been almost 8 years since I've been here.
I wanted to pass thanks along to those who have kept the Series 3's alive with HD upgrades.
Following the instructions found here:

And using the WinMFS found at this dropbox link found on this thread:

I was able to successfully upgrade my series 3 from 160GB to 1TB hard drive.
I did not go larger than 1TB because it was not worth the money on a larger drive.
I picked up a Western Digital AV-GP 1 TB AV Video Hard Drive: SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD10EURX for about $60 bucks.
I used a Windows 7 machine with SATA drive connectors to run WinMFS on it and had no problems at all with the drive swap.
I upgraded the HD because the Tivo seems to double-accept whatever skip or 8 second rewind command I give it with the remote or if I do a skip and then press 8 second rewind it does another 30 second skip (or whatever the last command from the remote was) before doing the command I want. It happens for almost all commands even up/down/select and I thought the HD was dying because of it.
Seems that's not the case. My remote must be bad as the Tivo still does the same thing.
I've certainly gotten more than my money's worth out of it over the past decade. I'll use it until it dies and then consider cutting the cord. I'm already close to cutting the cord anyway. It's a few esoteric sports like F1 that keep me holding on. ;)
Cheers!
TJ
