Local and Remote Streaming on iOS: Dropouts and Skips

I've installed the TiVo app on an iPad Air (OG). It works great as a remote, and for setting up season passes, searching for shows, etc.

What it doesn't do is stream reliably. When I start the stream quality is reasonably good; it might buffer for a second or two. However, after a few seconds I'll start seeing momentary dropouts/transitions as up to a few seconds of content is skipped.
