Tivo HD gray screen issues...

Hello!

I recently purchased a used tivo hd from eBay, which was reported to be "in good, used condition" & functional. Upon getting it all set up on ota digital antenna only, the recordings freeze, do not play & then the tivo begins to reboot. After a few moments on the welcome screen, it flashes over to a blank gray screen with no remote response at all. It must be unplugged to reboot. Any ideas? HDD? PSU? Mobo? I do not wish to shotgun pays until it works as intended. If there's multiple causes for this symptom, I'd prefer to contact the seller to return it & either try another unit or just do an XBMC PC.

The Good Wife - "The Last Call" - 3/30/14

I normally don't go for episodes like this one, but I thought it was really well done. I liked watching the emotional rides that the characters went through, even including David Lee's emotional moment.



I liked how strong Diane was in handling that client meeting. I'm not sure that was realistic that would have been, but I liked seeing her channel her emotions like that.



The final imagining of Will's voice message to Alicia makes me wonder how Alicia is going to deal with the relationship with Will. She was already showing some coolness to Peter.

Local twc office doesn't have working CC

I went by the local Time Warner Cable office in order to get a TA and a CC. They went through the motions of looking for them and mentioning how Noone is using these things anymore . In the end they didn't find a working CC and they don't know when they'll be getting any more.



I asked if I could order from Time Warner themselves over the phone. They said I could try.



This is disappointing service from a local office that has been great over the last few years I've had to go by for their help.

Black screen with green bar on all channels

I've got a relatively new Roamio basic that we use just for OTA stuff. It has been working great for several weeks, but this morning I got a totally black screen with a horizontal green bar covering about the top 10% of the screen. (I'd post the image, but I'm new here and the system won't let me yet.)



The audio was coming through okay, but the black screen with the horizontal green bar at the top is all that was present on every channel, SD or HD.



Menus worked OK, with the green bar changing to taking up about the top half of the small window in the upper-right upon opening the TiVo menu.



Power-cycling the unit cleared the problem, and all the channels began working normally again. This has only happened once so far, but I'm concerned about it eventually becoming a problem. I hate flaky electronics.



Has anyone else experienced this behavior before, or does anyone have a recommendation? I suppose I ought to complain to TiVo, too, but the more detail I can give them, the better.

PLSR code no longer valid?

Hello all. I'm the new guy here so try not to be to hard on me. :-)



I recently cut the cord and am going with OTA only which means the basic Roamio box. I've searched this forum a lot and would like to thank everybody for the wealth of knowledge I've gained. But I'm sure I missed some things along the way so I'd like to ask a couple of questions.



I have a $75 coupon code for the box from Tivo which would make the purchase price $125. But it appears if I use that to purchase the box then there is no way around the $499 lifetime fee. I spoke to them again today and that is their "best" deal...today. So, if I understand correctly from reading here, I could supposedly buy the box from a 3rd party discounter for $175 and use the PLSR code when activating to receive the $399 lifetime offer. This would still save me $50 over what Tivo is offering. However, when I tried to use this as leverage to get a better deal from the Tivo CSA today she told me (after conferring with her supervisor) that the PLSR code was no longer valid. Now she had never heard of the code before and it was her supervisor who confirmed that yeah, it did exist, but not anymore.



So if I haven't confused you to this point, does anybody know if the PLSR code is still valid or if there is a way to know for sure without actually buying a box and ultimately having to return it if the code doesn't work?

Here's where this goes off the rails: how the hell does he get enough money to out-gov the government with all of his high tech toys? We have to be talking millions.



And how does he scrape together all those ex-special ops guys, girls etc. to help with his scheme? What's in it for them?

Modified Recording Settings Disappear

Something strange lately. When I modify recording settings for a program already scheduled to record (usually to add time on at the end), my To Do list shows that program twice (one time as scheduled and another time with a red "x").

Not a problem until last night. I added a half hour to The Mentalist after the basketball game had run long and pushed the entire CBS Sunday night schedule back. The To Do list showed two Mentalist recordings, one with a red "X". Tivo only recorded an hour (the originally scheduled time) - not the show with the added half hour. I also had set Crisis on NBC at the same time to record and that disappeared from the "To Do" list (but got recorded anyway).

Any ideas what's going on here?

The Amazing Race - Sri Lanka(2) - OAD 3/30/2014

Another non-elim. This was a little more of a surprise than normal as the teams are due to fly to a new location next time (no spoilers from the 'next time' portion of the show). Usually, if memory serves, the non-elims are when they continue racing in the same location.



Looks like for once, the teams all finished very close to each other - even the not-so-obvious ones. At least we get to see some more eye candy for another week! ;)

Help with MOCA network install - router issues

I'm going nuts trying to install MOCA so that my new Romio and Mini will work!



Here's what I've done so far...installed POE before the splitter, then I have the MOCA adapter, modem and router connected just like the installation diagram shows and forums have advised.



All 3 lights on the MOCA adapter are working, but now my internet doesn't work. No wifi or even when I connect with a wire to the router. There are no issues with router because if I take out the MOCA adapter, I can connect to the internet.



Is this happening because I have an older splitter? Max. frequency on it says 1002MHz.



Any advice much appreciated.

Is Roamio Basic the Right Choice?

I'm contemplating adding a Roamio to my 2 Premieres and want to get experienced feedback to make sure I'm not missing something in my analysis.



The TiVo Roamio Basic with a $75 discount from the March Mayhem promotion is only $125.



It has only 4 tuners, but I have 2 Premieres (4 total tuners there), so even if I want to add TiVo Mini(s) later, I'll still have tuners to spare.



It has no Stream, but I don't know how much I would use that. I currently use KMTTG to encode to m4v for playback on my iStuff while traveling. Yes it might be an improvement, but I can always add it later for $129, and locate it at my switch in the basement where its noise won't be an issue.



As for HDD size/recording capacity, according to the upgrade threads on this forum, it is an easy upgrade.



So.... for $100 less than a Roamio Plus, I can have a Roamio Basic with 2TB HDD, and add Stream later if I get the itch. In fact, for $60 less than a Roamio Plus, I can have a Roamio Basic with 3TB HDD, and still add the Stream later, for $130 less than a Roamio Pro.



Is there some dimension I'm not figuring here, or am I right that, at least for me, the Roamio Basic is the best way to go....

Once Upon a Time - Quiet Minds - S3E15 - OAD 03/30/2014

As bad as that last episode was, this one was sooooo good!



- Offing a pretty major character in Neal

- Regina figuring out that Robin Hood is her destiny

- Lumiere (though I guessed that he was too good to be true)

- The Witch is revealed

- Rumpel is back, though he will be a villain for now



I'm not sure how Rumpel ended up in the Dark One's lair after disappearing with his father... maybe they're explain that. If Zelena wanted Rumpel out of the lair so bad, why not just grab a flunky and have them do the dirty work? I mean, it's cool to trick the son into killing himself to release the father, but that increases the chances for monkey wrenches. I guess chalk it up to Villainy 101.



Sorry to see Neal go. I enjoyed the character, but now it opens the door for Emma and Captain Eyeshadow. Can we just give Henry the fairy tale book so he'll remember and move on? But it's ok, Henry will soon have a new stepfather in Robin Hood. :)

For Those Who Care, they've started showing this again tonight...but it's on Lifetime Movie Network, so old season passes won't pick it up.



There are still a couple of showings of tonight's episodes overnight (fortunately; I only saw it just now), but it looks like that's it.

Roamio has slowed down lately

In the last month/month and a half, I've noticed that my Roamio basic has gotten slow when it's transitioning to different menus/views when I first turn the TV on or been watching a show for awhile. However, once I start interacting it seems like the slowness goes away. I'm not aware of changing any settings.



Has anyone else noticed this?

Roamio's becoming piles of crap

I've never been so down on TiVo As I have been these last few months. The company is putting out garbage. And doing nothing to make it better.



If tonight I could go out and get an X2 system from Comcast, I probably would do it.



The TiVo service sucks. And TiVo can't get it right.



They've been sitting around blaming CableCARDs for innumerable problems and doing nothing to make anything better, whether or not that really is the problem. They know when these problems occur. They could at the very least create an option we could choose to enable to automatically reboot the TiVo when they occur, or at some reasonable schedulable time afterwords.



Tuner's just stop working.



Rebooting is almost a daily necessity just to have more than an 80% chance of everything recording.



And now I discover first-hand some things I've heard mention of before... while a C133 error happens -- ostensibly because TiVo's servers have a problem again -- you can't even make the stupid Roamio stop a recording in progress.



WHAT A PILE OF GARBAGE.



TiVo should fire every single person who designs or writes code for them because this is just totally absurd form every sort of usability standpoint any reasonable person could ever manage to come up with. TiVo should be HUGELY ASHAMED of what their products have become.



I've got a neighbor going through similar issues with an XL4. They just resorted to scheduling a 4am daily reboot with a power controller.



I am so very thankful I resisted replacing a TiVo HD with a Roamio and a couple Mini's for my parents this Christmas... but I just was so uncomfortable about the myriad of issues to add a remote headache like this, and things have only gotten worse since the holidays.



This is completely unacceptable. Anyone considering a TiVo Roamio model should wait until these reports completely stop and fixes are in place and things are stable.



MAKE IT CLEAR TO EVERYONE THAT FIXING EVERY ONE OF THESE THINGS IS A NUMBER-ONE PRIORITY.

I'm seeing "To Be Announced" on 4 of the HD channels I use 1105, 1110,1120,1125, in the guide. What would cause this to happen?

Resurrection - S01E03 - Two Rivers - spoilers

Given the seemingly out of sync timing of the Dad injuring his arm second and feeling pain first, I'm going to guess that we're dealing with some sort of time travel thing here. Since Jacob wound up in China it's not only time but also space, which makes me think wormhole, probably localized at the river. The people who are coming back are the actual same people, but displaced in time and revisiting their own time-stream. "Two Rivers" is a reference to this. Makes me think of the Doctor Who episode "The Girl Who Waited," which played on this same concept, sort of (and which featured a facility called "Two Streams," now that I think of it).



Or, it's some sort of Many Worlds/Multiverse thing, and there's a weakening of the walls between universes in the area around the river.



Season finale: someone who DIDN'T die comes "back," so there are now two of them walking around town.

Bulk convert and/or auto convert for mobile?

I have a Premiere, Tivo Desktop v2.8.2, VideoReDo TV Suite, and an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3).



I have been told that upgrading to Tivo Desktop Pro ("Plus"?) will auto-convert the files once they've been copied over to my computer.



1) Is that true?



I am also interested in a freeware solution to batch convert files. It's been a while, but I believe that VideoReDo will handle that.



2) Is there is an easier/better way...?

Will a TivoHD image work for a Premiere?

The hard drive in my Tivo Premiere (TCD746320) died this morning and the largest hard drive I have laying around is the 750Gb drive from my old TivoHD (yes, I upgraded it).



My question is, can I just throw that disk in my Premiere and have it work or do I need to get a Premiere image from somewhere and install that on the disk first?

Premiere w/ 1TB HD, remote, etc.

All original documentation, box, etc.



Hard drive was replaced approximately 1 year ago and has been working like a champ. Just looking to upgrade to a Roamio.

What Just Happened?

I've had my Roamio Plus and two Minis for a little over a week. While I was out of the house this morning I discovered my iPad app wouldn't connect to the Roamio. I got a message saying the Roamio wasn't connected to the internet.



When I got home, I tried one of the Minis. It too said it couldn't connect to the Roamio. I turn on the Roamio and get a welcome screen that says "starting up." It's been stuck on that screen for 10 minutes or more. There's nothing wrong with my internet and TiVo network is all hard wired Ethernet. What's going on?

Netflexon TiVo Roamio

OK - this is a weird one. Prior to my upgrade to Roamio Pro and a Mini, I only did Netflix from my Roku.



Every time I go to Netflix through the Roamio (which I would prefer to do) I have to completely sign in again - it does not remember my login information - this is not an issue with accessing Netflix on the Roku.



Not a huge issue but very inconvenient!



Ideas?

Tivo Roamio Pro and Sling Box Solo

I have a Roamio Pro with Moca connection for internet. I had Sling Solo not connected to anything, and recently needed to watch live TV away from home. It was so easy! I just connected the Sling Solo to my Roamio Pro using the component connections, then used the ethernet ports on each for the internet connection. I put the IR's on and placed them in front of the Tivo IR, and it worked great! I'm not using the out video ports on the sling, as I don't need it- it's going to be used for out of home live TV viewing only.



I did do a re-setup on the sling, as I had not connected it to a tivo before. I enabled out of home viewing as well on the sling set up. Now the virtual remote is a tivo remote and it can change channels successfully. To test the scenario, I had my laptop disconnect from my home wireless network and connect to a cellular Verizon WiFi network. It was able to stream my live TV from the Tivo. Now I'm confident it will work when needed, as we will use this Verizon wifi jetpack to connect to the internet to watch live TV via the sling at slingbox.com.



I didn't see a topic exactly like this, so I'd thought I'd share my experience.

Continuum Season 3 on SyFy -

The 3rd season is starting for Continuum on April 4, 9pm CST 2014 on SyFy. The new season is not being tagged as "new" so if you have a season pass.. it may skip it depending on your settings. Of course doing repeats grabs the whole marathon preceding it.

C130 No Internet Connection Error

My Roamio has been rock solid since I got it in September with the exception of those C133 errors but those were on the TiVo side. However I've now had 2 C130 errors over the last few days. It's a no internet connection error and a reboot has fixed it both times. I haven't been able to use the app either time so it makes me nervous if it occurs when I'm away from home for an extended period.



I'm connected via cat-6 with 2 switches in between the router and the TiVo. I also have moca on to feed my mini that's upstairs. I haven't had to reboot the switches so I don't think they are the problem. Has anyone else seen this issue? Any potential solutions?

Disabling Live tv on Mini

Somehow my 15 month old go a hold of my Tivo and changed a setting, causing my Mini that is connected to XL4 to use a tuner for watching Live TV. This is not how I wanted this setup, because we never watch live TV, only programs that have been Tivo'd. In the setup guides it states from the settings menu, under settings under cable card and devices, enable Live TV viewing. However that is not an option, and that is the way to turn it on....not off! Anybody have an Idea? I hate calling customer service, it takes way to long on the phone.

What is a good converter for AVI2 Files (OpenDML)

I'm converting my HD camcorder home movies so that I can upload them to my TiVo, the catch is the capturing SW I have saves them in AVI2 format which after searching there appears to be several programs for the mac but I need something for Windows. My old camera has HDMI out so I'm using a Black Magic capture card so to maintain the best quality.



Works great but the video format is awkward to work with and now need something to convert them to h.654, MPEG or any other format that will maintain the best quality while making the video files size more manageable, 15 minutes of captured video is 6.7Gb which while disk space is cheap, I have tons of HD content to convert.

Roamio MoCA connection advice

I am trying to help a relative get their TiVo Roamio Pro and Mini working with MoCA networking. I have been using MoCA networking with my FIOS service for years but I have run into problems with their Brighthouse cable wiring. I am working with two (2) separate cable feeds in their attic but I know there are more, which means more splitters. I will try and see if I can trace them on my next visit. I also plan to install a POE filter as soon as I get one.



I had some success in that I got the Mini working with a MoCA network connection and they can now watch live or recorded shows in HD. To get this far I added an Actiontec MoCA adapter and switched the feed for the Mini to the 2-way splitter (in the attic) that also feeds the MoCA adapter and cable modem (see Office Area on left of attached diagram).



I did a lot of reading on the TiVo Community site and it seems that the consensus is to keep the cable modem on a separate feed that is NOT downstream from an amplifier.

Also, if you use an amp, you can use diplexers to route the MoCA signal around the amp. I attempted to show my plan for getting their Roamio Pro connected via MoCA on the right-side of my diagram.



I originally tried to use a 3-way splitter (on a feed in the attic) that would have:



1) Cable Modem

2) Mini

3) Roamio Pro



but the signal to the cable modem was too weak and it would not connect.



Ok, here are my questions:



1) Does my diagram make any sense ?

2) Is there any way to safely feed the cable modem from a line from the 8 way splitter that is AFTER the amp ?



Currently, the Roamio Pro is connected via WiFi which seems to get about 18-20 mbps when I test with my PC. The MoCA connection to the Mini seems to get a good PHY rate (230-250) and it replaced a SlingLink power connection.



Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have to keep signing in to Netflix

at least once a week I have to re-sign in to my netflix account on my tivo .. Anybody else have this problem?

Channel not available Charter cable

I'm getting to the point where I'm tired of banging my head on a wall. Everything was great until this past week I noticed some shows weren't getting recorded and in the history it said not authorized. As the week went by this happened on more and more channels. Well done a reboot, unplugged, hit the cc, etc. Still showing channel not available, or channel not authorized or some other stupid error. I even had the channel not available banner showing on a channel that I could actually watch. Was there a software update recently? I think this points more to an issue with Tivo than a cc issue.

Tivo OTA signal strength question

New member here. I have the Roamio basic and was wondering what the signal strength meter needs to be at to receive reliable OTA channels. My signal strength on my non-Roamio TV's are quite a bit higher than on my TV connected to the Roamio. Feedback appreciated.

Roamio Plus and Xfinity Router Can't find DHCP Server

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help.



I just got my new TiVo Roamio Plus and I can't get it to connect to my home network via wireless. It gives me a N02 error and says it can't find the DHCP server. Here's the setup:

1. Tivo Roamio Plus

2. Comcast Xfinity ARRIS TG862 router/cable modem

3. These are currently located 2 feet apart so I'm sure signal strength isn't an issue (it reads 85-100%)

4. I have the WPA/WPA2 security on the network, but I have also tried turning security off with no success either.

5. I have turned off the firewall completely.

6. I selected get IP address automatically and that I don't need a DHCP client ID. I've tried manually entering an IP address as well, no luck.

7. I completed Guided Setup using a wired Ethernet connection, which worked fine. Roamio connected to the internet and downloaded updates.

8. After guided setup completed I went back to the network settings to try again on the Wireless.



This is not my permanent location so I'd like to get Wifi to work. I know MoCA is an option but right now I'd like to figure out what's wrong.



Other points of note: My Series 3 and Series 2 connect just find over WiFi to this same router. I have rebooted the router and Roamio multiple times.



What else can I try?

Upgraded to a Roamio now I'm unable to decode all transferred recordings...

Title says it all. Upgraded to a Roamio, now all recordings transferred with TivoDesktop 2.8.3 will no longer decode using Tivo Decoder. Transfer fails within seconds with error code 10. Never once had an issue with the TivoHD. Tried both fast transfer speed and regular.

BTW, not sure if this has anything to do with the problem, but transfers would normally take hours with the TivoHD, now with the Roamio they take minutes.

Ruled out: Firefly, Farscape, Stargate:Universe (Too mature of content)



Tried with no real interest shown: Quantum Leap, Sliders, Voyagers (Kids without real knowledge of history don't quite latch onto these shows it seems)



Dabbled with: Doctor Who (Its just that some of the episodes are a bit scary, so I'm not sure if we want to do the entire series.. but they've watched episodes and are fans)



Considering: (Unless I get some good stuff here .. I'm considering Star Wars: Clone Wars .. but my issue with that was that there was just a lot of needless violence particularly early on.. lots of "body" counts.. yes, I know they were drones and/or clones .. but a lot of shooting/dying)



Hopefully that gives you some idea of what they watch and enjoy and what they don't.... I'd love to keep the violence level down and try not to focus on adult-themes.



I'd *prefer* something that lasted longer than 1 season. I'd prefer something sci-fi oriented.. but comedy or drama has its place. Something with some intelligence behind it would be appreciated, nothing that is dumb for dumb-sake.



Please don't take my shooting down of your ideas as a lack of respect and appreciation for you offering them. There is probably several we've seen that I've not listed, and plenty I've mentally crossed off without listing them above either.



I look forward to seeing your ideas.. and don't be restricted to any decade. There are plenty of classics worth watching.

Season Pass recording issue

My Premiere only records 2 shows a day. These recordings are erased are erased when the next shows in season pass are recorded. This started to happen this week.

Has anyone seen this before? How did you fix it?

Record 1 minute over endtime automatically?

Often I have Tivo record a show from the GUIDE. I click the show and tap record. Nice and simple, until I watch what was recorded. The show ended like 30 seconds after the official end time.



Is there a way to get Tivo to automatically record (pad) 1 minute of extra record time at the end of shows? Basically, everything I record I want padded with 1 minute before & after the official start time.

Tivo Life extension

I'm contemplating an offer that will get my make my TiVo (a Premier) a "life time of the device" account. Since hard drives are the most likely point of failure, I'm contemplating what I should do (now) to ensure that I can recover from a hard drive failure (later, when it inevitably happens). I'm a competent hardware guy in general, and did a number of "upgrades" with my old Sony-T60 + DirectTv.

How do I download Amazon purchases?

I have previously purchased videos on Amazon. How do I get my Roamio to download them? The best I could do was search for the videos on the UI, but it wants me to purchase it again. I don't really want to pay twice for something I've already bought. I can't find anything on the menu to "download" my Amazon videos. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Do you recommend buying an UPS for Tivo?

What are your feelings on the desirability of an UPS for Tivo? If I get one I'm going to spring for the one with filtration from Panamax. Not a small expense. But I'm not convinced I really need one. I've got Tivo hooked up to good filtration and surge protection all ready. So the only thing I'd add would defense against losing a show in mid record. But If I'm recording a cable show, they are usually replayed soon after as a rerun.



What do you guys thing? Good way to save money by not getting one or a necessity with a new Tivo Roamio?



The UPS won't run my TV (too much amps needed). So I wouldn't be able to watch Tivo during an outage. the UPS would only be protection from Tivo having to reboot after outage and from losing part of the show it's recording when outage occurs.

First Time Potential DVR Owner Question

Absolute newb so here is what I would like to be able to do. I have Cox internet so I will first be looking at Cox for service. Last year I read some impressive things about the Roamio and would be looking to buy rather then rent a dvr from Cox. I want to be able to (1) record 2 hi def shows at once and if possible be able to watch a third live while the other two are recording but if that is not feasible then I am all right with just being able to record two shows at once (2) I want to be able to somehow archive (transfer) what I watch on to an external hard drive or a flash drive and store the files until I want to watch them and then be able to transfer them back "into" the DVR's internal hard drive. Alternatively it would also work for me if when the internal hard drive is full I could remove it and put in another hard drive and continue to record and then when I wanted to put back the original hard drive and watch those previously recorded shows. So is this something that is doable and if so could someone point me in the right direction. TIA.

Tivo Series 3 HD skipping like a record - audio/video not synced and lagging

Greetings all,



I've been a long time Tivo user, but I'm suddenly experiencing a strange problem on playback - either during live record or planned record.



The problem I'm seeing is that if I touch the quick-back button, the video backs up, but the audio doesn't, and starts to repeat the section over and over like a broken record. When it stops that, the audio and video are no longer in sync. I can hit the pause button, the video will pause but the audio will continue until it "catches up."

What I've tried:

• imaging the current hard drive to a new hard drive, thinking it was a bad hard drive


• moved HDMI ports


• reset the TV to factory defaults (it's a Vizio)


• reset the Tivo with the new hard drive to defaults (erase everything)


• different Tivo remote that is known to work

What I will try but haven't:

• different HDMI port


• try composite cable


• try component cable

Can't delete a specfic single season pass

I have a season pass that can't be deleted.



This specific season pass can be moved. Which is the only thing I can do with it.



The drives seem to be good. I've tried rebooting the machine, and power down then unplug. When get back into the manager the pass still won't let me delete it. All the rest of the passes are fine, they record as they are supposed to. No issues with deleting the rest. When the season pass list was copied to another machine via tivo.com it luckily got ignored so it's not on the new machine.



Do I have to live with it, or is there some sneaky remote code to remove the pass by force?

Roamio / DirecTV any possible workaround?

New here. If this should be posted some other place, I apologize. Feel free to let me know. I have received a TiVo Roamio Plus with a lifetime subscription so I am trying to find a way to make it work with my current DirecTV service if it is at all possible. I've been with DirecTV forever and I don't want to change but I would like to take advantage of the TiVo service so that my family member overseas can watch things from back home.



I have 4 DirecTv boxes active. One is a slightly older HD DVR receiver. One is the newer slimline HD DVR and I have two genies. I think I might have an old school basic receiver somewhere in my garage. One of the TVs that has a genie I could potentially be willing to not use anymore if I could free it up for a workaround to make this TiVo work.



I appreciate any insight here (I'm not up on a lot of tech lingo so please keep that in mind, lol). If there's any other specs needed to fill in the blanks I'm happy to answer. Thanks so much!

Stupid Charter... Channel lineup update, lost my channels

I came home from band practice last night to find out that I received a channel lineup update. YAY!!!(not!)



Charter recently switched over to digital in my area which has everybody completely angry. A large percentage of houses in my area are very large vacation rentals that are vacant for 8 months. Many of these homes are 8-10 bedrooms and have 15+ televisions. Since Charter is now scrambling, you have to have a charter box or cablecard on every television. This is expensive for these rental houses!



So back to my problem...



This channel update removed a large majority of the channels in my lineup. I can go to the Tivo Channel list page and the channels are listed but they were mostly unchecked. I lost all of my guide info on all but two channels...which is a little strange in and of itself. I had to go back and check several hundred boxes to get my channels back, then I had to repeat guided setup.



I filed a complaint last night about missing channels with Tivo. They have responded and asked me to fax them a channel list from Charter, which I did. It was about 15 pages...



I've gotten a few strange messages. The first message on both boxes was the "new lineup" message which was several pages long as it deleted a few hundred channels.



On my premier, I got a message stating that they received incorrect lineup info from my cable provider and to run guided setup again. I did and that seemed to fix the problem.



On my HD, I received a message saying my channel lineup was incorrect. When I hit the "next" button, it told me to disregard the previous message as I have since selected to not use cable with my tivo.......?



So I'm running guided setup on this one now, which should fix the problem. I guess I'm not really asking for help as much as venting. I missed recording several programs yesterday because of this idiocy.



I'm pretty certain that this is Charter's fault. Charter is run by idiots.



I was planning on buying a roamio plus and a mini in the next few days, but this situation has made me stop and think about it first. :mad:

Remove "HD Recordings" Folder

We've been using our TiVo HD XL (TCD658000) for 4 years now, and I just realized that we've NEVER used that "HD Recordings" folder sitting at the bottom of our Now Playing list (organized by folders). Is there some way to permanently remove that folder? I tried hitting CLEAR on it, but according to the blurb that pops up, it looks like that will delete the folder and all the recordings in it. I just want the folder itself gone: not the contents.



It's not the end of the world, but I thought I'd ask.

Question on Moca with Roamio Plus

Haven't purchased anything yet, just trying to visualize how this will need to be wired. Have Comcast cable/internet if that matters.



Have a Tivo Premier which I plan to put in bedroom and will need to be hooked up via Moca so I can stream. Plan on purchasing a Roamio Plus which will go in living room. My cable modem/router will be on opposite side of living room and not suitable to hard wire Roamio via Ethernet cable. I'm confused on if certain components need to be connected inline with the Roamio for Moca to work.



My intentions are to run the cable from the wall to the Roamio where the tv will be placed. On the opposite end of the room the cable modem/router/etc will be connected via a different cable connection. Is this suitable or am I going to need to add an additional piece of hardware somewhere for this to work?

Deleted wishlist, Tivo still auto-recording

I tried to set up a Tivo wishlist for Ted Talks, just in case they get aired on cable tv. (I did see this once.)



However, for some reason, my Tivo thinks every wishlist that I start up should be auto-recorded. So I changed the setting to do not record. I just want to be able to check the listings.



My initial search was for "Ted" which got me a lot of Cheers, etc.



I changed it to Ted, Ted Talks. And then just deleted the wishlist.



Yep, it is still recording some Ted shows. How do I delete this if it doesn't show up in the wishlist section?

Survivng Jack: First Season Thread **spoilers**

New sitcom, premiered last night (Thur March 27). I was pleasantly surprised. I had read four reviews, two said thumbs down, two said thumbs up. I give it a :up:.



It had the right mix of funny and cute. Chris Meloni, who plays Jack, was a little harsh at first, but by the end he had warmed up (typical pilot behavior). The kids were ok, really liked the mom. I also like Jack's unflagging devotion to his wife, it gives the entire story a nice feeling.



If they can keep this up, it'll be a fun sitcom to watch.

Tivo Xfinity On Demand app would not load (SOLVED!)

My symptom was the Xfinity On Demand App would not load; Tivo Premeire XL4 gave me the "Please Wait..." message for 15 minutes and then would time out. Getting a Cisco hardware version 801 cablecard solved my VOD problem (my old cable card was Scientific Atlanta h/w version 800). Luckily my installer had one on the truck. You can verify your cablecard hardware version on the SA CableCARD Diag Screen in the CableCARD Menu on Tivo. On the third line look for "H/W Model: 801"

Advantages to using mini vs Premier?

I currently own a Tivo Premier which is hooked up in my living room. Moving to a new house and planning on getting a Roamio Plus for the living room and now debating on what to do for the bedroom. Have read a bunch of threads and it looks like my Premier can be hooked up to the Roamio via my network and I'll be able to access movies stored on either from both machines. With that said, is there any advantage to getting a mini and using that in the bedroom instead of my Premier?

SP's vs. Wishlists. Why use SP's?

Well the TWC channel mix around resulting in most if not all of my SP's to become unusable. TWC renamed most of the channels. So I had to create new and delete old SP's.



So here is a question. Why not use Wishlists for everything instead of SP's?



You can just setup a Wishlist for say "Person of Interest" (in the title) and get First-Run recordings.



Since TiVo is all about not really caring what time something is on, why care what channel its on either? I'm surprised TiVo doesn't push Wishlist or combine the two, instead of SPs.

Advice on whether to get Mini so Tivo isn't in cabinet

Hey Guys.



Gonna be picking up a Roamio. I have a cabinet the TV sits on. In the cabinet are all my components. It would save space and cut down on the HDD spinning noises of the Tivo if I had a Mini in the cabinet.



Good idea? I'd keep the Tivo in another room by my router. The goal is just to have a small device in the cabinet (instead of the bigger Tivo) and to have nothing making any noise in the cabinet (Tivo HDD can be heard somewhat). Space is at a premium.



Just wondering what you guys think, if the extra $250 (assuming lifetime subscript) is worth it or not. Or would all you guys save the money and just put up with having the Tivo in the cabinet below the TV? I would only be watching Tivo in the one room. There is no TV in the room with the router.

Trying to get away from Directv and new to TiVo! Hope this is the right forum. I plan on purchasing a 4 tuner unit and a mini! 3 questions, besides the $8 monthly charge for Hulu on the main unit is there an additional monthly charge for Hulu on the Mini? I have an internet repeater (Cisco re1000) with a port for ethernet, can this be used? There appears to be a reduced monthly service charge of $2 for multiple equipment. Does the mini qualify? Sorry if this is the wrong place to post!

How does Tivo work with Verizon Fios?

Hey guys, checking for any new info about Fios as its been 4 years since the most recent thread that popped up.



I am looking to give BH Tampabay the finger and move to Fios but need to know if its worth it.



Previous posts said you have to have a tuner in every room, I have a 6 tuner roamio and two minis so if I need a stb connected to the roamio, then that defeats the whole purpose. I know they use M cards as well but if i cant tune more than one channel at one time then i'll stay where i am.



Do they use TA's or do they not do SDV ?

Problem with the picture on my new TiVo Roamie

I just purchased a TiVo Roamie and am using it with a FiOS cablecard. At first it was installed upstairs in my house and I was getting no channels. I moved it downstairs (which the Tech told me would have no effect) but I got all my channels! The problem is now that my HBO and most of the HD channels are so pixelated that I can't watch them. My signal strength on all 6 tuners are at least 85% (with most being 93%) and my SNR numbers are all in the low to mid 30's. Any ideas?

Videos in My Tivo Recordings Folder Not Appearing in Transfer Apps

I have a laptop running windows 8.1 and when I add non .tivo/.mpeg files to the My Tivo Recordings folder they don't show up in Tivo Desktop Plus or pyTivo. On my old laptop with windows 7 I can still transfer .avi and .mkv files to the tivo without a problem. I assumed it was a Tivo Desktop issue but pyTivo doesn't see them either. Any ideas?

Can I Limit Browse Results?

I've had my Roamio for about two weeks and absolutely love it. I do have one question that I haven't found an answer to. In the menu that allows you to browse for movies, sports, shows, etc, is there a way to limit what shows up?



Specifically, can I somehow eliminate programs on Hulu, Amazon, MLB, etc from the results? I do not subscribe to those providers and it's a waste of time to click on them only to find out I can't watch it. I'd like to somehow limit the results to my cable channels and Netflix. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, I have Verison Fios, and i'm sick and tired of the 2 tuner DVR, I need more tunners baby!!!



So I'm looking to 86 the Verizon dvr and get a Roamio. But wanted to check with the forum to see if there are any issue's/problems I will have to worry about?



My fios is MOCA, so from what I read, I just unhook the coax from my existing DVR and hook to the tivo and I'm gtg, but I do need to order Cable card from version first of course.



Any issues with using Netflix on the tivo?

I assume I would loose access to the on-demand content from verizon correct?



How is the Roamio working with you other people on version fios? any issues?



No issues using all six tuners on VZ fios?

MLB TV app not showing up

I use SD menus on my TiVo Premiere Elite. When I go to the Video on Demand menu, there is no mlb.tv app there. I have xfinity on demand, hulu plus, Amazon, netflix, YouTube, and video podcasts. How do I get the mlb app to show up? I could see it when using the HD menus, but I had to switch back to SD for other reasons...

Hi All,



I recorded a news program‡ (Comcast HD channel 210 ABC).

I used TivoToGo Plus and I transferred the news recording to my PC.



I tried converting to H.264 but the .MP4 was 320 x 240 resolution. I tried Convert to MPEG-4 and got the same resolution. I was expecting a dialog or control to specify the resolution output.



Converting to iPad I did get 640x360, but I'd like to get at least 720x480.

Tech support suggested I reinstall the program :eek::confused: and they could not tell me what formats would yield high resolution final.

TB Brighthouse is at it again

So for years I had a series 2 connected to a set top box in my bedroom and brighthouse DVR's in living room and kids bedrooms, at 20 bucks a pop. after too much wasted time doing that, I upgraded and bought 3 premieres and only had one set top box from BH and then got even smarter, bought my Roamio and two minis and returned the set top box.

As a result of getting the minis, took the cable cards and tuning adapters back to BH and was advised that as of May 6th 2014, they are moving 52 channels to SDV (switched digital video) and will need a box of theirs or one of their tuning adapters. I got rid of all the BH equipment on purpose and the only thing I have is their cable modem because it has 2 phone jacks. Now it seems as they are holding me hostage in the sense that if i want to view channels that I am paying for, i have to have their equipment in my house OR pay for useless service I cant receive.

The worst of it being my only other option is satelite or OTA programming.



I think its time for a class action lawsuit here

Roamio streaming and/or out-of-home viewing

I have a roamio plus, and have been playing around with streaming and downloading shows to my iphone and ipad. All working well. Wanted to watch shows on a larger screen so tried appletv, but it will not allow mirroring. So I am trying to find a way to connect my iphone/ipad to tv to watch shows on bigger screen when away from home. If I get an Apple digital AV adapter and HDMI cable, will that allow mirroring my shows from Tivo app on iphone to TV? Are there other devices/options that will allow me to do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Help: Tivo Premier gets completely sluggish before having to reboot it

Gave my 2-year old Tivo Premier to my Mother.



She uses it for hours, every day, recording her favorite news and cooking shows.



Lately, over the past few months, there have been times when navigation has become more than just sluggish -- it comes to a complete crawl. Enter a remote command and the screen just hangs for seconds before executing it.



Each time I have had to unplug the Tivo and reboot it, where the navigation speed returns to normal.



....but what is causing this sluggishness?



The hard drive is not full. Recording capacity is under 20% despite the fact she records everything under the sun.



I can tell you that, as an old retired lady, she sits in front of that Tivo unit for 7-8 hours a day. That Tivo gets a lot of use.



Appreciate any suggestions as to what the problem can be and if others are experiencing it too.

Would be nice to filter the upcoming episodes listed for a given season pass and be able to select or deselect the channels from which episodes are listed. For instance I have aSP for "Big Bang Theory" for new episodes on CBS, it would be nice to filter out the reruns appearing on the multiple other channels which air repeats.

I had not noticed the 1986 Demi Moore and Misinform Lowe movie that one is based off of or “Sexual Perversity within Chicago” by Indicate Mamet. Just about all I had to carry on had been the particular movie trailer which, lately, appear to be on each direction and programs position.

Increasingly Pixelated - PSU caps FIXED

Thanks for all the posts on the bad PSU caps. I didn't think my problem was a PSU but gladly it was.(I know analog repair)



The problem:



Over 3 days my output went from stuttering to pixelated garbage, like someone kept on hitting pause very fast. Optimum changed my cable cards and claimed the signal was strong enough, and blamed the TIVO.



2 company tug and war:



Tivo had me check out the SNR and Signal Strength. Strength jumped around from 0-33 to 95. SNR I think was varying from 35-8(memory not great).

They said it was the cable company, and I tried to inquire if it could be the box.... NOoooooooooo we are confident in our TIVO Boxes. (well you should have used some nice Panasonic El caps then)



The Fix and Results:



So I replaced only 6 caps. Looking from the front down.... the 2 2200uF caps on the right; replaced with 25V caps (one calls for 16V). front left, 2 470uF/16V caps with the same. And the 2 2200 6.3V caps under the heat sink with 16V ones.



WoooooWhooooooo, now kicking back with some food and French Soccer.



OK signal strength locked in at 100 and SNR at 35-36

RS both at zero

(before it they were like 20-60K I think)



Maybe it's just satisfaction of a job well done, but it looks better. I do plan to replace all those el-caps. I should never have underestimated a PSU cap upgrade. Always the first thing I do for my audio gear that comes through my door.

Charter CC Firmware Upgrade!

I don't know if it's because I've been complaining a lot to Charter about this but our CC are upgrading at at my home in Fort Worth! I really hope this is a firmware upgrade being pushed out to all Charter customers. BTW, our cards are all Cisco.



We have 4 CC and so far the first 2 CC have upgraded, the second set hasn't yet. Now, the first two are on two 2-Tuner Premiers, figures, doesn't it? LOL



I'm waiting to see if the others upgrade sometime overnight, we got these years after the first two so if they are sending the upgrades via serial numbers or something that might be why they haven't begun to upgrade yet. We used to have that happen with Charter DVR boxes, they would all upgrade at different times.



Any way you look at it, I needed 2 upgraded cards and I will have them even if I have to re-pair all the boxes!

TCD746500 Premiere drive seemingly dead

I've been trying to the last... five(?) days to restore the image of a TiVo Premiere that I bought for my parents a little over a year ago to another, same-sized drive. The TiVo just stopped working and I tried jmfs to restore the 500GB drive to another 500GB drive.



It reported about 42221 kB in errors and has been trying to repair them for the past three days. At this point, it is "Retrying bad sectors" for its second retry and I don't feel like this is going to work.



I had considered dropping the process and using ddrescue to copy and repair the data directly, but I assume that ddrescue will also attempt to fix the bad sectors and give me the same wait.



At this point I'd rather just blast a new image on top of their new drive since they've told me that they don't care about their saved shows, and they just want a working TiVo again.



Anyone have any pointers on where I can find an image?

Tivo History File not updating

Recently had a bunch of channel lineup changes (Time-Warner). Had to re-do guided set-up for new channel lineup & had to delete most of my old Season Passes and create new ones. Now in my To Do list only the new season passes appear (as they should). However, each day I have a habit of checking the Recording History file and I see my old Season Passes with old channel numbers listed there, not recorded, with notation "Not Available. No longer in guide. "

It's not really a problem, but an indication that Tivo's OS is not quite getting the info and file information correct. Just curious about it and wondering if anyone else has noticed it.

Pause causes sound loop

My Premier XL started something new. When I press pause when watching a recorded program. It pauses the video but plays a 3 seconds loop of the sound over and over for about 10 seconds. Then if I push play the sync on the sound and video is way off. If I exit the video and resume playing all is OK. Anybody have a way to fix this annoying sound loop and sync problem?

Seriously? No Amazon viewing!?!

I thought the whole idea behind the Mini was to protect the copyrighted material with no need to have multiple standard TiVo's using MRV to transfer it.



Why can't you watch rented or purchased material from Amazon on the mini? This is just stupid!



It's only being streamed internally in your own dwelling, there is no reason it shouldn't work otherwise there is no reason to purchase content from Amazon! I can completely understand the legal copyright restrictions of not allowing such content to be transfered but with the Mini, it's not being copied, just streamed.



I know it's Amazon that puts this rescriction in place so it's not all Tivos fault short of them going along with it and allowing Amazon to do such but it's not a technical rescriction as premium content such as movie channel recordings can't be transfered but can be streamed.

Can pyTivo run on Windows 7

I have pyTiVo running on some XP machines and feeding about 4 TiVos in my network. It works great for my needs. Seeing as XP support is getting totally shut off here in April, I was looking to maybe try and move pyTivo to some PCs running Windows 7. I thought I remember trying this a while back and didn't have total success. I didn't look into it much more since my XP machines were running fine at the time.



Can pyTivo run on a Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine? If so, is it a straight forward installation or is there maybe a special way of installing it?

That one was a bit of a let down. Borderline cheesy storyline. "Oh, teen wants girl so bad he'll do anything to win her love!" Meh. Overall I thought the whole Ivan thing was lame.



The only thing worth anything was the small cat and mouse chase between wife and "hubby". Everything else was just hokey and forgettable IMO.



Lots of suspension of belief stuff too. Ivan's ease of taking an uber high tech gadget and using it as if it's just as easy to use as his iPod. :rolleyes:

TiVo Stream STILL Incompatible with H.264 Content

TiVo Stream still will not work on systems with H.264. One would have hoped that they would get this issue resolved, but apparently not. And no mention of that limitation on their web site.

Mini units connected to more than one TiVo host DVR

As I add to my TiVo environment for different rooms, I find myself in a new situation. I have a Roamio and XL4, which gives 10 tuners available.



I would like the ability to have TiVo Minis connect to wherever an available tuner is. So if my Roamio is using all Tuners, it should fall back to the XL4 and vice versa.



Instead of being tied to a single host, they should be tied to the account and be able to use whichever is available, along with a unified now playing list.



Hope TiVo is looking for features to add and differentiate. I always intend to have more than one TiVo DVR in case of failure or issues arise so I always have Live TV and the ability to record should something go wrong with one of the units.



If TiVo ever gets their network DVR online, maybe the Minis will make even more sense to leverage additional storage and shows available without recording locally.

New Roamio Question-Fios

I just bit the bullet and bought a new Base Model Roamio after spending a half hour getting a $75 off shot in the Tivo promo. It will be replacing an HD in my bedroom that is plugged into FIOS. It's been a while since I messed with my Tivos. I guess that all I'll have to do is pop out the Cable Card from the HD and plug it into the Roamio and go through the pairing process.



Correct?



Also, I'd like to upgrade it and wanted to know what suggestions you guys could give me for a newer higher capacity HDD and where to get it.



I understand that all I need to do with the Roamio is pop in a new hard drive and it will format it automatically. Not like we had to do in the past with the older Tivos..



Correct?

Series3 Failing In An Unusual Fashion

I woke up this morning to find my Series3 launch unit in a "Powering Up" reboot loop. I've had almost every TiVo I've owned lose its hard drive at one point or another, so I know the drill, but this time it looks like something else is happening.



On the off chance that my TiVo was issued 11.3, I tried the Kickstart code to flip the active partitions on the drive. No luck, same result. I also tried manually flipping the partitions with WinMFS. No dice.



So, as usual, I popped the drive out and put the original factory drive back into the TiVo to confirm the drive is bad. However I was shocked - it didn't work - still stuck with the "Powering Up" reboot loop.



A quick peek at the internals doesn't show anything outwardly wrong. The power supply and capacitors look good. None of the chips on the main board appear to be damaged.



I start thinking that perhaps something connected to the TiVo could be somehow interfering with things, so I started yanking cords and CableCards in various combinations. This is where it gets really bizarre.



After much trial and error, I find that the TiVo will get past the "Powering Up" screen when using the original factory drive and only one CableCard. It can be either card or either slot. You can also put the card in the "opposite" slot and it will work. However if you insert both cards in any manner it won't get past "Powering Up".



Even more bizarre, the drive I thought was failing won't get past "Powering Up" at all. No matter what you do with cords and CableCards.



At this point my running theory is that I have an electrical gremlin in the CableCard section of the device. Why the old drive/software works with a single CableCard but the newer software doesn't is a bit of a puzzle. My guess is maybe some kind of timing issue where the older software is a bit more "tolerant".



Regardless, given that I can only seem to boot the device on an old software release with a single CableCard, it appears the end is nigh. I figured I'd throw up the hail mary and see if anyone else had any ideas I haven't already tried.

Watched this documentary last night. It aired on CBS in February but it's probably can be found on demand. If you were in the band during your school days, you will love this. It's about kids in New Orleans post Katrina who are in pubic school bands trying to keep their lives together and grow up in that city. Their participation in the band is helping them to be focused and off the streets. The featured band directors are heroes.

Watch 2 shows on TV Display

With larger televisions and resolutions available, how about the idea of the Tivo outputting two shows/recordings/channels onto the TV at one time?



Since most TVs do not do PIP any longer (nor does TV allow for control of two feeds via two different outputs from Tivo), why doesn't Tivo manage the output to tile 2 or 4 or whatever amount of TV streams.



I want to watch Nascar while the kiddo is screaming for Mickey, and I don't want to fire up an iPad.

I still have trouble balancing Comcast signal strength on Roamio Pro



normally I add about 16db attenuation to Comcast cable signal and this allows me to get most channels I get on Comcast provided box: if signal is too hot I get channel not authorized



most problematic are channels 817 and in that range



problem is the signal strength changes from channel to channel, and at different times of day: so I am forced to always play with attenuator values



is there anything I am missing here? Comcast is of zero help

Changing from marked new

I have googled all over for this answer, but have found nothing on the topic. I simply need a way to change a show from being marked new. The frustration stems from shows which I record all episodes of, and keep a few for long term. If I save one that is marked new, then that show's main folder states I have a new episode inside. Therefore I scroll to that folder, only to find its an episode several months old that I have saved. Isn't there a way to change a show that we have watched from being flagged as new?

HD XL power supply

I recently received an HD XL (658-000) with lifetime service as a hand-me-down, which was purchased in August 2009 and used non stop until it was replaced with a Roamio in late January. Although it doesn't currently have any problems, I read about the issues with the power supply capacitors while researching replacement hard drives. I bought a used power supply on Ebay for $35 as a backup, but upon comparing it with the existing power supply, I immediately noticed the layout of the circuit board was completely different than the existing one. The footprint, connectors, and screw holes are exactly the same, as well as the Tivo part number (SPWR-00011-000 Rev B0), but the manufacturers are different (AcBel (new) vs. 3Y (existing)). Luckily, neither one has bulging capacitors.



Is it safe to assume the power supply is compatible?

Is there a way to create folders for recordings.



I have a bunch of shows that I'd like to keep - old movies I've recorded for instance - but thery're scattered all over the place in My Shows.



I'd like to be able to create a folder named Movies and move them all there.



Is that possible?

Coming back to TiVo, best way to get lifetime?

I was a TiVo customer from 2004-2011, paying monthly that whole time (I know, not smart.) I canceled in 2011 because I was moving to DirecTV. In 2013 I moved to FIOS, but it's expensive and I don't watch much cable TV anymore. It would be cheaper for me to just buy the shows I want to watch from iTunes at this point. I'll be saving about $80 a month by dropping cable TV.



So, my questions...



I have a TiVo HD sitting in my closet. What can I expect to pay for lifetime service on this unit, if I reactivate it?



Any chance if I call TiVo, they'll give me a deal on lifetime on a new Roamio? I don't want to pay $500 for lifetime.

I do find this very interesting... Apple could definitely be pushing for a new IP delivery mechanism of cable TV. From this artificial, we have no idea if this is just specific streaming on demand channels (similar to HBO to Go) or an IP distribution pipe, but either way it is a start.
