Can a Tivo be connected to regular phone to a check the telephone modem to work?

Is there a way to connect a regular phone to a TiVo to check to see if the modem has basic working properties?



I no longer have a phone line, and I want to sell some Series 1 lifetime TiVos that don't have ethernet adapters, and I am wondering if I connect a regular phone and listen for tones or anything else if that will work to see if the TiVo phone modem is basically working.
