Hi,
So I am with Cablevision in NY & my bill for 6 TV's with DVR's, multiroom, etc, silver package, ultra 101 internet & 1 phone is close to $300 per month.
The phone is only added as part of their promotion. The promo is now gone.
So I am debating on going to either Fios internet or staying with cablevision internet but getting rid of cable TV & telephone.
This should bring my bill for internet only (50/50 or 60/60 depending on provider) to $70 per month.
I had use Tivos for years & thought they were great.
I have been playing with KODI a bit on matricom g box & it works OK with a RI 8 remote keyboard. I would say using it is a bit awkward, not intuitive.
I would like to try this whole cable TV cord cutting. My house/office phones are VOIP already (6 lines costs me $10 per month with low usage).
Is the Tivo Roamio OTA with a few minis a good investment?
I have Cat6 run to all TV locations so I wont be using wireless.
I dont know how much actual recording i will be doing with a Netflix, hulu, and amazon prime video account.
I wouldnt expect to watch much live TV from the networks. My kids are more interested in SpongeBob, curious george, gumball, and other cartoons.
Since I dont get those OTA, it seems more of a streaming service.
I was hoping that the minis could store 'curious george' either on the unit or make it seamless to watch but it doesnt sound like that will be the case.
The regular network (ABC,NBC, etc) isnt likely to be accessed often beyond the superbowl.
Ideally the Tivo remotes would be extermely easy to use & user friendly so that may help with the WAF factor while making it easier on my wallet.
When I called Tivo they quoted:
1x OTA - $400 5x Tivo Mini - $750 6x Tivo slide remotes - $0.00 Tax - $84.80 Total: $1234.74
They also said I have a 30 day return window which they would extend to 60 days with free return shipping.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks,
Rich
