Dead HDD, right?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but thought I'd ask here anyway. My parents have a THD (not the OLED model) with an upgraded 1TB WD Green drive (the same one I have in my THD). They reported it freezing and rebooting over the last week or two, no pixelation though. I popped the cover and it was covered in dust inside. I used compressed air to clean it out and checked the power supply which looked fine, no bulging caps. Today they called me and said it froze, there was a clicking sound, and then it rebooted. It is now stuck on the Welcome, Powering Up screen. They let it sit for up to 20 minutes with no change. My diagnosis is the HDD is dead. My dad isn't too happy to be losing his movies so if anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them. If the drive has failed, is there anyway to still copy that drive to a replacement? I've used WinMFS to upgrade drives before but will that work or is the drive too far gone? I'm going over there tomorrow to pop the old drive back in and run the WD diagnostics on the 1TB drive.
