So last week I get a call out of the blue. "This is XXX from <your homeowner's insurance company>. I would like to set up an appointment to inspect and take pictures of your water heater, bathrooms and make sure your policy is up to date." I respond.."uuumm.. Sure." and we set up a time.
Appointment finished 10 minutes ago. First thing I asked when he walked up was "What's my account number?" He stammers and says "Well, all I have is your policy number," and he proceeds to show me. "Thanks! Come on in."
Halfway through the inspection. "Ya know. I've been doing this for years, and you're the first person to pull that on me." "Really? Someone cold calls you to take a picture of the inside of your house and they let them in without verification?"
He had a Company painted up car that I saw him drive past while looking for parking, but he walked up from 1/2 block away, so if I hadn't been paying attention, he would have been a random Joe walking up.
