The Flash - S1E04 - “Going Rogue” - 10/28/2014

A complaint about the previous episodes of the Flash was that the villains weren’t that interesting.

With Going Rogue, we meet one Leonard Snart who looks like he isn’t going to be a a one off villain.

I was pleased when I read that Wentworth Miller had been cast as Snart. Seeing his work on Prison Break, I felt that he could give a chilling performance as Snart and I think that he did just that.

Leonard Snart isn’t like Black, Clive Mardon (who’s brother is still running around), or Nimbus who were drunk on power and/or wanted revenge.

Miller’s (and Geoff John’s) Snart is a professional criminal who cooly plans his crimes.

He may not have finished High School and he may not be able to build a freeze ray from scratch but he’s very cunning.

What he is, is professional criminal who’s an observant planner.

And when he sees the Flash, he takes it as a challenge that he needs to step up his game.

Not just step up his game, but build a new gang, starting with one Mick Rory as we saw at the end.

It’s nice to see Felicity visit from Starling City but I thought that it was a little bit of a cop out to have her know Barry’s secret by listening in on his conversation with Oliver.

I would have preferred her to figure it out on her own.

I also liked that she was able to give some helpful advice to Team Flash.

Not as happy with the whole “Cisco guilt trip thing”. I thought that the handling of it was a tad on the ham fisted side.

Good effects this episode as well. I particularly like the sequence when Snart shot the gun at Joe and Barry.

Shout outs included:

Kahndag Diamond Exhibit

Blackhawk Squad Security

Erdell

Oswald Loomis

And did I hear right that was Dexter Myles, the curator of the museum?

Good episode.

Let’s hope the series can keep the momentum going.
