According to the Google and Webster, Synecdoche means a figure of speech by which a part is put for the whole (as fifty sail for fifty ships), the whole for a part (as society for high society), the species for the genus (as cutthroat for assassin), the genus for the species (as a creature for a man), or the name of the material for the thing made (as boards for stage).
In the aftermath of Roots death (whos buried unmarked in Potters Field) and Finch going AWOL, Reese is trying to pull the troops together.
And its a problem because Shaws still not sure if this or isnt a simulation and Fuscos worried about Shaw.
In fact, Shaws about to loose it when the Machine gives her a new identity and Reese a new number, Relevant-One or the President of the United States, who is supporting controversial surveillance bills.
So while whats left of Team Machine travels to DC to stop a potential assassination, Harold is driving through Kentucky and discussing life, loss, morality, and guilt with the Machine who is now speaking with Roots voice.
(One thing that the Machine mentions is that she saw Root die 12483 times while trying to come up with a way to save her.)
While Shaws cover identity gets her into a swanky fundraiser, Reese is not so fortunate until eccentric Tech Billionaire and former Person of Interest Logan Pierce (S02E14 One Percent) shows up and gets John in.
Scoping out the premises, Reese finds a bomb hidden in a planter brick and he and Shaw throw it in a refrigerator in the caterers tent while the Secret Service spirits the President away.
Shaw has IDed the waiter Charlie as the inside man and her and Reese proceed to interrogate him and then let him escape while she and Fusco track him back to a townhouse while Reese keeps eye on the President.
Reese comments on how he feels like hes being watched.
Meanwhile Shaw is scoping out the townhouse and finds out that it has a sophisticated surveillance set up and is being run by a Vigilance type of group, led by a Senators wife.
Shaw is caught but is rescued by Fusco and a timely power blackout.
While Fusco tries to figure out what the group was doing, Shaw joins Reese on site at the Presidents next public event to find the threat.
While Shaw takes out a Secret Service rooftop sniper, Reese runs into former number Joey Durban (S01E03 Mission Creep) but doesnt have time to deal with him.
Fusco dopes out that Vigilance-Lite is going to take over one of the security drones and pilot it into the Presidents SUV. But Reese cant do anything because the inside man in the Secret Service detail has made him so he goes to assist Shaw, whos only other play is to shoot at the President to delay his exit to the SUV until after the Drone strikes.
The tactic is successful but now the Secret Service is after Reese and Shaw.
And so are the Vigilance-Lite agents and have cornered Reese and Shaw until they are taken out by Joey Durban!
The Secret Service is also holding Fusco at the townhouse until Harper, masquerading as a Homeland Security agent, bails him out.
It turns out Pierce, Durban, and Harper are another team of Machine assets who were sent by the Machine to back up our team.
And they were recruited by the Machine to do the same thing as Team Machine (New York), help irrelevant numbers.
In the meantime, Finch has broken into a Texas Air Force base to steal a computer virus, the highly dangerous Ice 9.
Its a very interesting episode as I had wondered about all the irrelevant number that werent in the NYC area.
It turns that the Machine has been franchising teams in other cites.
I admit that I initially groaned when I saw Harper but her appearance was surprising acceptable here.
(I did notice that earlier in the season when the Machine was running through the list of assets, Harpers was one of them.)
Whats even more interesting though is the Machines admission for love, especially for the departed Root.
And obviously Finch has stolen that virus to use on Samaritan.
We also have to wonder why Samaritan now classifies the President as irrelevant.
We know that the President had at least one meeting with Creepy Kid interface so whats going on there?
