My cable company, RCN, uses TiVo as their preferred set top box. They have a special app which allows them to operate Video on Demand. The slave I have is called a PREVIEW which has it's own tuner, and requires connection via coaxial cable to watch Live TV or VOD.
It was my understanding that mini (see diagram) does not require coax as the Tuner is in the master unit. It is sufficient to connect with Cat5e only. Coax also works via MoCa but it is not required.
RCN customer service insists that coaxial is required. I have been through three different cable CS reps and some of them insist that I am stupid. The only advantage that I can see with Moca is that if you have a lot of TV's you will use all your router ports.
I don't know if VOD will work. Can anyone tell me YES/NO?
My neighbor bought a home that has never been wired for television. I told him he only has to wire with Cat5e as long as he has a single coaxial line for the main TiVo unit. But I am not sure if he will be able to get VOD.
