Problem with Discovery Bar

In short, the squares in the discovery bar on my TiVo (Roamio Basic) stopped showing any images. They *WORK*, but they don't show any images in the squares, it is just text. In addition, the various video providers (Youtube, MLB.TV, Vudu, etc) in the Now Playing column have no icons anymore. They all work as well, but don't show anything.

I noticed this started roughly two weeks ago or so. I didn't think much of it until this weekend, when I sent out a request to TiVo's support on Twitter, asking if it was a known problem. After some back and forth, they came back to me and told me this..

Upon reviewing your account and TiVo it does appear that the TiVo's hard drive has been modified, which is likely the cause of the missing pictures in your Discovery Bar.
They are right, the factory HD was replaced in there, but that feels WRONG that they're blaming it on that. This HD has been in there since this Roamio was brand new. It has been working fine with this interface until about two weeks ago.

So I questioned them on that, saying it didn't sound right - I couldn't believe that a physical HD would cause THIS PROBLEM when everything else on the unit works right. Their response:

This is probably due to our recent software upgrades. They are more than likely not compatible with the third party hard drive that you've put into the TiVo. Sadly, at this point in time we are not able to further support or troubleshoot this TiVo, as it has voided our Terms & Conditions by being modified.
OK, fine - they're hiding behind the hard drive change and are refusing to look into it. But it still feels like total ******** - they were looking for an "out" so they didn't have to look into it.

I did check my secondary TiVo in the house - also a Roamio, but is total factory. That one is working right. I did check with my brother who has a couple of Roamio boxes, and has replacement hard drives in all of them, and they're all working fine.

Anyone have any ideas? Rebooted several times (for other reasons), no change. I don't want to try restarting the TiVo all over again, too much stuff sitting around waiting to be watched.
