(Admins - I'm aware there is an Official Grande Communications Cable Card Thread under the Series 3 Forum. It's not very active; maybe here is a better place ?)
I have Grande Communications analog cable in Austin and own a Tivo Premiere. Last weekend, I picked up a Cablecard from Grande. I installed it and went through the setup over the phone, trying several times.
The card shows "Authorization Received" (Host ID Screen), but remains "Not Staged" (CA Screen), showing only basic cable channels. We had THREE helpful, friendy service visits this week. The techs brought several other cards, but the situation remains the same.
One of the techs suspected my video splitter board and bypassed it, raising the signal strength, but that did make the card work. We have 73/74% signal strength, 34 dB SNR.
During several support calls before the service visits, the phone support people asked for the Card's Data ID, but the Host ID screen does not show one. One of the phone reps kept calling the card a "Motorola Card" while the card itself and the Menus indicate it's a Cisco card. One of the phone reps told me I had two cards, while I did actually have only one. These two details have me suspecting that maybe the setup process on Grande's side expects a different type of Card.
The visiting techs were friendly and on time, but did not seem particularly familiar with cable cards.
If anyone has gotten a Grandecom Cablecard to work with a Tivo Premiere recently, I'd love to hear about the experience. Any secret steps to take, secret numbers to call ?
Thank you.
