comcast cablecard pairing problem

I purchased a new roamio and tried to pair an exisitng cablecard to the roamio. I kept getting the activation screen occasionally and NO on demand features working.

Here is the sequence of events.

1. Try activation and pairing a couple times by calling activation line at comcast. After a couple tries, pairing successful, BUT still no on demand and activation screen popping up on occasion.

2. went to get new cablecard. Tried pairing and pairing successful. still get activation screen on occasion and on demand will work for 5 SECONDS and then freeze.

3. call activation line and repeat activation. Pairing then lost on card.

4. get another card, same deal, now NO on demand.

5. after trying to activate a second time, activation person at comcast sets up appt with a tech.

6. try to get another card at store and same result.

7. Let tech come out and everything working within 5 minutes. The problem was that the billing code and outlet assigned to the card was wrong. After fixing this on their motorola server, everything works great.

MORAL of the story,

Don't trust that a card that you pick up from the store is coded correctly to work. The customer service reps in the store have no training with cablecards nor how they operate. If you have activation issues, don't waste time like I did. HAVE activation line set up a trouble appt for a tech to come out and they can then talk with a knowledgeable dispatcher on their end to straighten it out. I had customer service reps tell me that the problem was with TIVO and I did not fall for this, nor should you.

In ending, if you have trouble with activation or freezing on demand, have a tech come out and fix it.
