I'm experimenting with the resolution settings on my Roamio, but my results seem different than the forum comments I've found so far. Hopefully someone can confirm or disprove what I'm seeing, and if I'm missing something important let me know.
I would like to maintain the full resolution and quality of the video sources, but the delays when changing resolutions on channels and sources was getting annoying. My experiment was to see if I could disable all but the 1080p 60fps output option in the Tivo settings without issue. I use Netflix, Amazon, Comcast VOD, and 720p/1080i broadcast. I used the Netflix Example Short 23.976 for to give me the stream quality, and the projector's menus to tell me the output signal info. I had read that Tivo could not convert 1080p/24 to 1080p/60, but that's not the result I'm getting.
My question is this: do I lose something (stream quality, conversion quality, features, etc.) by limiting Tivo to 60 fps?
Thanks!
Experiments
1) Enable both Tivo output options for 1080p (1080p/24 and 1080p/60).
Netflix stream: 5800 kbps 1920x1080
Projector info: 1080p @ 23.90 Hz
2) Disable passthrough and limit to 1080p/60.
Netflix stream: 5800 kbps 1920x1080
Projector info: 1080p @ 59.90 Hz
3) Checked the same conditions with my PS3 (which has a single 1080p option, no separate passthrough option).
Netflix stream: 5800 kbps 1920x1080
PS3-identified stream: 1080p Super HD
Projector info: 1080p @ 59.90 Hz
System Setup
Tivo Roamio (20.4.4a-USA-6-846/2013.2.63)
Marantz SR5007 receiver (resolution conversion disabled)
Epson Home Cinema 8350
All HMDI connections
Comcast M-Card
Netflix app (nrdapp 2013.2.63 / nrdlib 2013.2.63 / mdxlib 2013.2 / mdxjs 3.0.4-r61 / nrdjs)
