Recommendation for testing Tivo before upgrading HD

I'll be getting a new Tivo Roamio Plus today and plan on immediately upgrading the harddrive. I've read a few comments in the past (but can't find anymore) about first testing the brand new Tivo just to make sure it works before voiding the warranty.



What is recommended for testing it? Just simply booting up? Just curious what is recommended.
