This was by far the best episode so far this year. The White Walkers are truly bada** zombies! I hope the Walking Dead writers were taking notes :)

Tivo App reboots Tivo
Hi,
I'm having an issue where the Tivo app (v3.0.0-799276) running on my android tablet is causing my Tivo Premier Elite to reboot!
This just started happening after the latest update, 20.4.7a-01-2-758 was installed.
All I have to do is browse around in "My Shows" in the app, and the tivo will eventually crash and reboot.
Anyone else having this issue?

No Longer Have Record This Program Function
Hey Guys,
I have a Premiere XL and I recently saw something about the "record this program" function in a post in another forum. That's when it occurred to me that I haven't seen that option in quite some time. I had just assumed it was no longer an active option.
For clarification, I am referring to the option to record an upcoming program that is being promo'd during a commercial. Does the option still exist and, if so, what do I need to do to activate it?
Thanks in advance.

Residue - Netflix, All Episodes, Season 1
I was adding some other show to my Netflix cue and some suggestions came up, one of which I added, and some more suggestions came up from it, which included a 3-episode season 1 of "Residue".
I'd call it somewhat, rough. Much like an independent production that's independently financed... and it was originally a 102 minute move, then recut into a 140-minute 3-episode series.
A short article on how the show came about:
http://ift.tt/1HZhLrn
The IMDB description (http://ift.tt/1BAU8Oi):
The government cover-up of the causes behind a massive explosion in a futuristic UK metropolis spur photo journalist Jennifer Preston on to search for the truth and in the process blow open a paranormal phenomenon haunting the city.
THR22 Kickstart Commands
It looks like my drive may be failing and I may have to replace it.
I probably will clone it, as I have an exact same spare drive.
All the instructions for using cloning tools such as ddrescue, mention running kickstart 57 after the clone, to clean up an sectors that could not be copied.
However, it looks like the THR22 does not have the kickstart ability. Does it have another method of testing/repairing the partition?

The Android app is driving me crazy
For the record, it works perfectly 90% of the time but there are times I want to use profanities at the app.
I can connect. I can see My Shows. I can even delete items in My Shows. But when I try to stream it's hit or miss. It'll try to load the video. Then it goes into the setup process and I have to check those checkboxes again. Then it'll say it's looking for streaming devices. About half the time, when I get to this point, it says it can't find any streaming devices. Then, I can come back 30 minutes later and it's just fine.
This is not a wifi or router issue that I know of. I have a rock solid wifi setup. In most cases I'm only 10 feet from the access point. I have a couple of computers and 3 Chromecasts and a Amazon Fire Stick on the same network that can stream HD just fine. Never, ever a hiccup. And, none of these were in use when I have troubles with the app.
I have the same issues on wifi or when connected via LTE. Seems unreliable. I have to revert back to my Slingbox.

Premiere NOT recording any shows; Live TV works
My Tivo Series 4 (TCD746320) will not record any shows. Even when selecting record now red button, it does not record. The Red light never illuminates.
Live TV works fine; all channels come in. You can rewind and watch ealier in the program
Troubleshooting
1) I rebooted the unit, I conducted an initial set up and rebooted again; no changes; it will not record.
2) Connected to network normally and downloaded latest guide info; again no changes; it will not record
3) History of recording shows "Not available" for all entries
I'm out of ideas how how to troubleshoot this.
Any help is appreciated !!

TiVo Roamio OTA and iMacs - can they play nicely?
The new lifetime OTA deal has brought me back to TiVo after a 15 year absence. In that time, I've gotten rid of most of the TV screens in the house in favor of computer screens. So, I'm going to need a way to watch Roamio OTA content on Macs.
Is that possible?
Is there a good instruction guide to the best practices?

Tivo repair vs buying new
I am looking to cut the cord soon with the Tivo Roamio and I have learned (from this site) that there is a 400 lifetime of machine programing plan.. I was wondering if any of you have a lifetime plan and have tried to extend the life of your Tivo unit by either repairing it yourself or sending it off?.. What was your experience and was it worth it or not?
Thanks
Mike

Changing cable plan when using cablecard?
Once the Tivo and cable card are set up correctly and working is a plan change simple? Or does it risk potential hassles because of the cable card? In other words can I go to my local office and change plans and the coding they use would be the same as any other customer? This would be Xfinity.

Tivo cant see my VUZE , used to workperfect
Hi I wish somone could help to explain what I have to do to reconnect my Roamio Tivo to VUZE (VUZE transcodes vido) and puts it in a folder on my pc from which Tivo plays the file.
This used to work brilliantly, out of the blue it stopped.
In VUZE the TIVO device "seems to be offline"
In the TIVO in my shows meny, there used to be menu option for "Devices"
now it is not.
I have rebooted both TIVO and Laptop.
Also, it seems like the TIVO does not have any settings pertaining to "devices'

Min reboot loop at "welcome! starting up..."
So last week my master bedroom mini was in a reboot loop at the "Welcome! Starting up..." screen. Nothing I tried fixed the problem, called Tivo and they couldn't get it working as well. They had me temporarily hook up my guest bedroom mini, which of course worked and I left it that way until I got a replacement for the master bedroom.
Now, today, my guest room mini is doing the same thing after I hooked it up for the first time. Reboot loop at the welcome screen.
I'm apprehensive about calling Tivo again since they initially seemed reluctant to replace my mini for my master bedroom at a minimal cost and transferred/waived the lifetime service to the replacement.
I'll keep futzing with it but I'm afraid I'm going to have to call again. This doesn't bode well with me. My Roamio and two mini's are only 18 months new, with over $1000 investment in equipment and lifetime service on everything. I didn't realize that if one died I'd have to buy a new lifetime. Could this be the life expectancy for a mini?
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
*update* I've rebooted my Roamio, unplugged everything from mini, still in reboot loop.

Season Pass/One Pass Question
I have used Season Pass since I got my Tivo, which was years ago. I set up a One Pass to record a new show, and now I can't watch it because I don't subscribe to Hulu or anything. Is there any way I can use a Season Pass like I used to be able to? Do I have to record each show in a series individually now? I don't really want a Hulu subscription and don't like this at all if that's the case. Thank you for your help.
Arris TG1672 from TWC
I received the new cable modem/router from TWC today. Can someone explain to me the use of the Moca on this modem?
MoCa or Ethernet?
I have a question that I've had trouble finding the answer to.
My setup is as follows:
1) Roamio (basic) in my living room, right next to my router so I have it connected via Ethernet.
2) Mini in the bedroom, currently connected via a Wireless bridge (TP-Link).
Both devices are on the network, have an IP address and I can get to the web interface of both.
However, the Mini cannot see the Roamio unless I connect it directly to the router via Ethernet. I had to do this to get it to set up in the first place. Once I go back to the wireless bridge it cannot see the DVR again. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the MAC address of the Mini is "hidden" because it's on the bridge, even though I can ping both devices on the network.
If anyone has a solution to that, great, but I'm ready to give up on the wireless bridge.
I know Ethernet will work fine because I've tested it with a long cable, however I'm not sure I want to run a new cable so I'm willing to try MoCa.
My question is, do I really need two MoCa adapters as the Tivo site indicates or do I just need one to get network onto the cable line and leave the Roamio connected via ethernet?
If I need two, I'm confused about what the network diagram would look like, any help?

Orphan Black 5/23/15 "Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate"
I always love it when Sarah and Helena go on a road trip. And hilarity ensues. And bloodshed.
And the waitress thinks leaving Helena with only a spoon will make her less dangerous? Hasnt she seen the Costner Robin Hood?
Meeting Alisons mom explains a lot...
Cosima needs my pee.
What for?
I dont know. Science?
Id like to say its dumb writing for Alison to put the mone and petitions in identical envelopes. But really, its just dumb Alison. :D
Cosima doing Alison! Heh. Heh heh. Scott gaming with Rachel. Odd couples week...
Every once in a while, they go into farce. I shouldnt approve, and yet somehow I do.
There are not two Pouchies, darling.
Alison actually gave a good speech! I was expecting Cosima to save her bacon.
Shes my clone. Oh, Alison. For about five seconds there I admired you! :D
I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with Shay.
Three episodes left. :(

How to raise the sound in Tivo TV?
I have Tivo with a Samsung UN22F500022" TV.
The sound of the TV is not loud enough for me with few exceptions and wonder how I can raise the sound? It's limited on the TV remote so....
....do you think an external speaker would help? If so, how can I tell how many watts I have now so that I'll know which speaker to buy that's louder than now?
Thanks so much for any help. :)

Mini shortcoming... Unable to initiate content transfer f
My setup: 1 Roamio Pro, 8 Mini's -- plus 1 new Roamio OTA*
I just added the OTA to our setup and have quickly found one annoying drawback... the Minis can't be used to initiate a TRANSFER of content between DVRs (e.g. pull from the OTA unit over to the Roamio Pro, which would be necessary to integrate the OTA-recorded content into the Pro's OnePass listing). The "Transfer" menu option doesn't exist, even for content I *can* transfer if I'm using the Roamio Pro directly.
Does anyone know of a features/capability listing comparing the Roamio DVRs with a Mini? (I'm wondering what other differences might exist that I haven't yet stumbled across.)

Louie S05E07 & 08 "The Road"
This show is always a rollercoaster ride, but man the most recent episodes seemed very dark with a few funny moments in them.
I always try to find some sort of meaning in the show. I understood the aspect that he had a certain level of frustration with the road, but then all of these side stories were crazy. Louie yelling at the driver in the first part where the driver was brought to tears, then that verbal exchange between Louie and the comedian at the condo where Louie was brought to tears.
Then once you thought Louie was going to loosen up a little and you had the funny "Upper Decker" scene, it quickly ends with the guy cracking his head open.

Android app: "Your streaming device has encountered a problem..." error
Hi,
I downloaded the Tivo app for Android to a Nexus 4. It was working fine but now getting this error message: "Your streaming device has encountered a problem. Running streaming setup may fix the problem. Error Code E=36 V=3."
Running streaming setup did not fix. Also rebooted the phone. Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks,

C501 error today?
Anyone else getting the C501 error today? First, my iPad app had a hard time connecting to the Tivo Roamio, so I went the Tivo itself and it's very, very slow. I can't use Find TV or Browse TV without getting the C501 error. I tried rebooting and reconnecting to the service... anyone else having tis problem, or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks!
TivoHD (TCD652160) boot time?
Greetings,
I just grabbed a Tivo HD TCD652160 at a second hand source.. (I've never seen a Tivo HD in the wild at such a place before)... and so far I've plugged it into power and into HDMI out to the tv. It is not connected to anything else.
I've never had an HD Tivo before, so I have no clue.. what is the boot time on these?
It's been sitting in Welcome! Powering up for a while now. It has a green LED on the front of the tivo. It's not rebooting, or anything like that. I've tried websearching, forum searching etc. and I have not been able to figure out how long it's supposed to take to boot up.
Assuming it just sits here and never fully boots.. is there anything else I should try first before thinking it (or more likely the HD) is dead?
Thanks.

Youtube App adult language censorship?
How on earth do you get rid of the blasted adult language censorship? I have looked at the youtube settings and there is only Safety Mode which i have Disabled but when watching shows like John Oliver it still sensors the words? I have tried to use it without signing into any account and it makes no difference. This is quite an annoying part of Tivo if the unit is self censoring the videos. I don't have Parental Control turned on in the Tivo setting either. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Roamio Pro recording capacity
On a Roamio Pro, with no expansion, how many hours of recording constitute 1% of used hard drive space? I record only HD cable programs.
Wanting to ditch the dish but
I want to go OTA with the roamio and 3 minis but the youtube vids I watched said that there is a $6 monthly for each mini.. Is this true? That would take away alot of my selling point to my wife.. Also, are the minis wireless or do I have to run ethernets to my router?
Thanks for any answers

netflix and other services gone from sd menus
This happened within the past couple months (before this post).
Note: this is primarily if you only use the SD Menus setup on TiVo Premiere.
Video on Demand was replaced which is now just Xfinity On Demand.
I think Hulu Plus is under another menu but YouTube is also gone.
I only tried this and happened by "happy" accident.
If you own a smartphone or tablet this will work, without having to change to HD menus. I only have Android devices so I don't know how or if you might do it with IOS devices.
So you just load up Netflix or whatever on your device and then tap the (I'm not exactly sure what the icon is called) "Connect to device" and select your corresponding TiVo DVR and...voila! It should then appear on your TiVo, you will be able to navigate with either your TiVo remote or Android/IOS device.
This is a decent workaround, but I wish it was still the way it was before.
This should work with other apps that were previously available, I only tried Netflix thus far.
I hope that helps anyone who was disappointed to see certain streaming apps gone from the SD menus.
FYI, I think they still work this alternate way because the apps are still on there but they're not directly accessible through SD menus.

Way to determine Connection Rate to Router (Tx Rate)
On my computer, I can determine my computer's connection rate to my router is lets say 145 Mbps.
Is there a way I can determine Tivo connection rate with router. I thought I may be able to do it from the router but I don't see it anywhere. Using Linksys WRT1900ac.
I'm just curious what the Tivo's doing. I actually connect much faster to 2.4 ghz on my computer than I do to the 5 ghz. 145 Mbps at 2.4 GHz v 41 Mbps at 5 GHz.)
Thanks in advance.

Netflix won't start, can't sign out.
Premiere running 20.4.7a-USA-6-848
For several months (since 20.4.7a?) I haven't been able to get into Netflix. The app launches and says it can't connect. If I run the connection test within the netflix app, everything passes. I can run Netflix on an iOS device connected to the same router and stream Amazon Prime Videos on the TiVo. I can hit sign out within the Netflix app, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
I've tried de-authorizing all devices on the account via Netflix.com, but that didn't change anything, other than having to re-authenticate on my iOS devices.
Over an hour on the phone with Netflix, who kept asking me to sign out of the app using a menu that's no longer under Account & System Info or Apps & Games. After two TiVo reboots and two applications of the Konami code, they say to call my ISP and ask for a "Gateway Refresh" because they don't see any network activity from my client ID. I may try this over the weekend but, if it's an issue with my cable co, why would my other devices be able to stream over the same connection?

Aquarius 5/28/2015 (S01E02) "The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game"
I'm torn; several times during the show I found myself watching other stuff on YouTube, and otherwise just ignoring the TV. Though by the end I guess I felt I'd become interested in some of the stuff happening towards the last half of this episode that made me want to see how it turns out.
But in general, I do still feel like there's just nothing in there I care about. And no character I'm invested in seeing survive or prosper or succeed.
So maybe I give it a couple more episodes to see if it finds some decent sort of pace/rhythm.

Aquarius 5/28/2015 (S01E01) "Everybody's Been Burned"
As the first two episodes were back-to-back I figured I should create a thread for each but I'm going to stick my comments in the second one since there more about "everything" than events specific to an episode. But for anyone who may want to talk about episode 1 without yet knowing/seeing episode 2, here you go. :)
Well truth is, I would've created one thread for both, but I couldn't fit all the info in the subject that I want to be there for each episode.

Diagnosing sickly Tivo HD
Hello,
I'm new here and am hoping someone can help me pinpoint what may be wrong with my Tivo HD.
Symptoms:
Blocky/pixelated channels, worse on HD channels, low signal strength via diagnostics (varies between 0-44), utterly insane number of RS errors, high-pitched whining noise
I had the cable guy come out to check the line, no problems with signal on other devices. My Premiere gets a 93% on that same exact line and plays fine. I also replaced the cable card and hdmi cable, just to rule out possible issues there. It made no difference.
As for the whine, it seems to come from the HD, so am currently doing that kickstart HD test on it. Older recorded content plays back fine on the Tivo, however, so it may not necessarily be a HD problem.
Some of the capacitors on the power supply look a teensy bit 'puffed up' near the top, but did not notice any blown capacitors on the power supply itself. No clicking sounds or problems starting the Tivo.
So, any ideas? I thought maybe due to the RS errors, I would need a line filter/attenuator thingy, but that probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense if the signal strength is coming in at 44%.

Missing channels after upgrading Cox package
We moved to a new house recently and noticed that several of our regularly watched channels (22 in all) were showing up as unsubscribed. Upon further investigation I found that Cox had set us up with the wrong TV package. They signed us up for TV Preferred rather than Premier. So I thought no big deal, I'll just give them a call and they can upgrade our package to what we had before. So they sent some signals but I've only gained a couple of channels. What's worse is that now we are missing numerous channels that we had prior to calling Cox.
Phone tech support wasn't much help, so I took the advice of another poster and emailed Cox support. They've run me through the standard stuff: Rebooting both my TiVo Premier and Roamio along with both tuning adapters; confirming that my CableCARD s/n's, host ID, etc match what they have in the system; confirming that my tuning adapters are paired to the correct cards. Nothing has worked.
Now they want to send out a technician. Is this the next logical step? All of my subscribed channels were working just 2 days ago. All that we added were a couple movie channels and the sports pack. Now I get a few of the new channels (maybe half?). But we continue to miss several stations that worked fine 2 days ago.
I'd happily take any advice you have to offer.

Wayward Pines: Ep3 - "Our Town, Our Law" OAD 5-28-2015
I mentioned it in one of the threads about the show before it aired, but I think now we know why Juliette Lewis and Terrence Howard's current roles on other shows would not have stopped the show from becoming a series.
There was a pretty MAJOR deviation from the book in this episode. I am guessing it is being done to cut out a subplot that they decided was not needed for the series.
The difference was that

Hard Drive for Elite ?
Want to buy a backup hard drive to clone the existing one in my Elite XL4, the unit in the box is a WD20EURS, there are EURS available but a less expensive option would appear to be the EURX or PURX, will all of these function properly ?. Thanks
Repeats Recording
This is probably somewhere already talked about that I can't find, but I have a show that keeps recording all the repeats. I have verified I have it set to only record new episodes. So, I figured maybe Tivo has no idea it's not a repeat, but when I go to Tivo.com and find my show, click on upcoming episodes, it finds them all and says (Repeat) after each episode. I cross checked and sure enough all those repeats ARE in my to do list. Any ideas? (screen shots attached)
Netflix and One Pass
Anyone seeing issues with Netflix and One Pass? I've set up a one pass for several Netflix series, both original content and old. Frequently (Almost every time) I start an episode I get a message stating that some undefined error has occurred. I can't remember the exact message, but you can see and hear the show playing behind a semi transparent black screen with a white button in the center. The button has "OK" written on it, but the remote becomes unresponsive to any button presses but "Clear" and "TiVo".

New YouTube app
...on my mini, today. Does not look like the mini itself updated, tho, hard to tell w the version string. I am wondering if apps can update or push out w/o an os update?
The new youtube looks much more like the android app. And, the app's main menu is red with white text.. hard to read. I hope when my xl4 gets this that the stuttering problem is fixed.

A reworked Halt and Catch Fire season 2 starts Sunday
I got so bored with the first season, I didn't finish the season.
According to the L.A. Times, the show has been highly reworked for the second season, and is much better now. So I'll give it a final chance...

Can't watch MLB baseball from DVR
So I have a one pass setup to record all local MLB games. I can watch them just fine from the TiVo but can't stream them to my iPad. Are the shows protected in some way? I can stream everything else.
Room-to-room sync
Is there any way to get Minis/Roamios to mirror each other? I know I can start the same program on multiple devices but that doesn't guarantee that each will stay in sync (through skips, pauses, fast-forward, rewind, etc.) I find this a fair amount with sporting events when I am showing the same event on multiple devices and want everything to stay in sync.
A lot of the cable/satellite providers are advertising "pause in one room, pick up in another room/device" capabilities. I would be cool to do this with Tivos!

Transfer Season Pass from Tivo HD to new Roamio
I am trying to set up my new Roamio and I would like to get the season passes that I have on my Tivo HD transferred over to it. I've tried using the Season Pass Manager on tivo.com to no avail ("A Season Pass cannot be copied because there are no airings of the show(s) in the next 14 days, or because the two boxes have different channel lineups."). I've also tried using kmttg, but the season passes won't show up under the remote tab. Any other suggestions? Any help would be appreciated!

I've been waiting a week for someone else to post about this, so maybe it's just me, but if I just go to http://ift.tt/Q5bot6 and thus get http://ift.tt/1Qeit3b, I get a 500 error and the page is blank. Premiere: Change from antenna only to (NTSC) cable + antenna?
When I first set up my Premiere, I choose (OTA) anteanna only as I was only investigating OTA at the time - what's all involved, and all the infinite moving pieces and finicky and fiddly bits.
Now that I have all but concluded that journey, I'd like to add my (still NTSC analogue cable TV) connection.
I've hooked it up as well, now, and see NTSC 2 - 13, but nothing beyond that.
How do I go back and change only the incoming signal setting from antenna only to antenna plus cable?

Just a note
If you cancel your service with TiVo anytime soon like I did last night, get ready for the deal you can't refuse. I had 4 lifetime S3 TCD648250B OLED Models. I had one that I pickup for 50 bucks just for the slider and the wireless N adaptor. I added it to my account for 9.99 a month for two months. I called last night to cancel the only one I have that's not lifetime, the nice CSR woman ask me what or you going to do with the old unit? I told her I was going to box it up and stick it in closet. She then ask me would you like to put lifetime on that unit for 99 bucks? Well it took me about 10ns to say "SURE" So when you read the stories about getting a lifetime offer if you cancel you account well it WORKS..... :D
Tivo not working with Xfinity on Demand
Hello,
Recently received and hooked up a new Roamio Plus with a Cablecard to my Xfinity cable service. After a call to Xfinity to activate the Cablecard, all seemed to be in order, all live TV channels are working. However, later we discovered that Xfinity on Demand is not working. When clicking on Tivo Central > My Shows > Xfinity on Demand, it shows the On Demand menu. I can navigate to a specific show or movie, but when I click on Play I get a black screen telling me to call a telephone number to activate service.
I've placed several calls to Xfinity support, and they assure me the Cablecard has been activated and paired with my Tivo. No one could figure out the On Demand issue, and at the end they said the matter would be referred to an "On Demand specialist", who supposedly will call me back in 24-72 hours.
Any thoughts on what may be happening? Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks,
b

Wiring Mini to avoid V87 error?
Hello,
My new Mini keeps getting a V87 error. Usually there is normal picture and audio for 5-10 seconds, then the picture freezes, then the V87 error message appears. This is a MoCA connection, and all network settings appear to be correct. Network Diagnostic reports that the internet connection is "working correctly". The main DVR is a Roamio Plus, in my living room. The Mini is in the bedroom. The Actiontec MoCA adapter is in the office by the router.
Support suggested putting the Mini in the living room next to the Roamio, using a splitter to divide the input between the Roamio and the Mini, and putting the Mini output to a different HDMI port on the living room TV. I did this, and in this configuration, the Mini works as it should. Thus, the issue apparently involves the cabling to the bedroom.
I had not really thought the cabling could be an issue. The Mini was attached to the same coax to which my Xfinity box had been attached, and that box always worked fine. The Mini diagnostic said that the internet was connected correctly, and my router GUI verified that the Mini was on the LAN. So I'm not sure what's up. Xfinity installed my setup about 2 years ago, so the splitters and coax are fairly new. All I know is that the outside cable comes up the side of the house and into the attic. I assume that in the attic there is a 3-way splitter, with one cable to the office (where the router is located), one to the living room (where the Roamio is now), and one to the bedroom (where the Mini is now). I'll crawl around the attic after work to try to see what's up, but I may be out of luck or may need a professional installer.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Basic operation question - getting back to full screen viewing
I've had my roamio a few months and am flummoxed . . .
If I'm watching a recorded show, and hit the Tivo menu button, the show will keep playing in the corner.
How do I get back to full screen? If I press live TV, it switches to, well, live TV. I just want to pop the recorded show back to full screen.

Saturday Night Live... ACTION FIGURES?!?!?
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are going to be action figures.
The figure sets will be released under the "Saturday Night Live" logo, and they'll be packaged in a mini version of the Weekend Update set from the show.

The end
I retired my Thomson Tivo in December 2011 based on the last recordings on it.
Yesterday I booted it up - which it did 1st time, though I suspect the drives may be expiring.
Today it was collected by a courier and is off to a new home in Edinburgh.
Cheerio Tivo - you were fantastic!

'Mr. Robot' Review: The Best Show Of The Summer And On Track To Be A Modern Classic
And after watching it I really have to agree; it was engaging right from the beginning. And it was just refreshing for some reason -- a good approach to telling a good story.
And it was amazing to listen to a drama that has computer hacking and cyber security as a major component that didn't resort to spewing out a bunch of so-obviously-meaningless gibberish and pretending it was technical speak. Even the various things shown on computer monitors wasn't a stretch and had some reasonable basis in real life.

Please help! Tivo connection issues, at my wit's end
I have had one version or another of Tivo since 1999 generally without problems (until a massive Premiere crash), and currently run a Premiere, a Roamio basic, and two Minis connected to the Roamio.
The Premiere and Roamio have been connected for a while via MoCa with no issues using my FIOS Actiontec router/modem. The first Mini was added about 6 months ago with no issue. The 2nd Mini was added a month ago with no issue as well.
Last week we abruptly lost power for about an hour. When power came back on everything seemed fine, at least until we turned on the TV's with the Mini's attached. At that point we could see that they were no longer connected via MoCa and the connections could not be reestablished. Subsequent checking showed that the Roamio had lost connection as well as the Premiere. The Actiontec MoCa adapters had all 3 green lights on, but it was like the MoCa option didn't exist according to the Tivo's. I tried multiple resets and everything else I could think of to no avail. I eventually spent two hours on the phone with Verizon since it seemed likely to me that the problem was on their end rather than all the Tivos having issues simultaneously. You can imagine how worthless that entire 2 hour conversation ended up being. They eventually agreed to send me a new router to try.
While I was waiting on the new router, I connected the Roamio wirelessly with no issues, but the Minis would never connect. I got the new router today and changed it out with the old one. I powered everything down and reset everything. Now things are even worse. Not only are there no options to connect via MoCa, but I can't get the Roamio to connect to the Tivo service either wirelessly or via ethernet. It will connect to the internet, but not the service. Depending on what I am trying I get N13 or N33 errors. I don't see any indication on my router that any ports are blocked. When I have the Roamio connected via wifi and it will start to connect to the Tivo service, including setting the clock and checking my account status. After that it will download for a bit and then fail. When connected via ethernet, it fails while trying to connect and gives the N13 error.
My current (and former) connection involves the cable coming out of the living room wall into a splitter with one leg going to the Verizon cable modem and the other leg going to the Roamio (or the MoCa adapter when it worked). The ethernet cable runs from the cable modem to a powered switch which is connected to the Roamio, and Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Keep in mind that the setup had worked for over a year with the two Tivos and over a month in it's final configuration including the two Minis. Nothing changed in the system. Maybe the power outage had something to do with it, or maybe that was just an odd coincidence. Either way, the result is the same, I have a lot of expensive, useless Tivos, and the natives are getting restless.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Options For Backing Up Shows
I have a Premier XL4 and it has started developing problems. It's almost full and I have no back up of all the shows on it. If it dies, I'll buy a Roamio to replace it. Is there a way to back up all my shows on my Premier so that I could restore them to a new Roamio if the Premier dies? I suppose I could buy the Roamio now and transfer them if it arrives before the Premier dies, but I'm worried the Premier might die before that.
I have Tivo Desktop and tested transferring one show to my PC and it seems to have worked. I haven't found a way to transfer everything though. I would prefer to just back them up rather than move them from the Premier to my PC, but I'm open to whatever I need to do.
I'm aware of kmttg and pyTivo but haven't used them so I don't know if they would work.
I'm just looking for advise on the best way to do this.
Thanks.

Premier Trouble Receiving Remote Commands
Yesterday our Premier starting having a hard time receiving button pushes on the remote. Sometimes I have to hit the buttons many times to get it to work. When it works, the yellow light on the Tivo lights up and when it doesn't work the light does not light up. I put new batteries in the remote and that didn't help. So I went and got the remote for my Mini and tried it. The Mini remote had the same problem. So I took both remotes to the TV with the Mini and both of them work fine there. So it seems to me like my Premier has somehow developed a problem receiving the IR commands from the remote. The path is not blocked and I cleaned off the front of the Premier. I unplugged the Premier so it rebooted and that didn't help. I have version 20.4.7a-01-2-758 but I don't know when I received it.
Any ideas on what is going on or how to troubleshoot it?
Thanks.

What happened to my 30-second skip?!
I've long done the remote hack of changing the "jump to end" button to a "30-second skip" button. Only today I discovered that it suddenly stopped working! No amount of trying to reprogram it will re-instate it.
I'm guessing that there must have been an update sent out last night or today. Did this happen to anyone else? Any idea what we can do about it?
thanks!

Kindle HD 6 and Roamio Pro Streaming
Despite both Tivo and Amazon telling me that the Kindle 6 will stream from my new Roamio Pro, it's not happening. It works like a charm on my iPhone 4S, but when I try to set up streaming on my Kindle, this is what happens:
1. I get the My Shows roster.
2. I choose an item to stream.
3. I attempt to set up streaming and I get a "Codec Error. Hardware codec not supported."
How can the Kindle not decode the Tivo data stream if the Kindle is supposed to be compatible with the Tivo?
Tivo tech support has given me all sorts of suggestions ranging from buying Tivo Desktop to rebooting everything in sight (including the family dog). Does anyone out there understand the problem and, even better, have a solution?
Thanks

Tivo tech support has given me all sorts of suggestions ranging from buying Tivo Desktop to rebooting everything in sight (including the family dog). Does anyone out there understand the problem and, even better, have a solution?
Thanks
daily calls taking longer
Why are the daily calls taking so long to finish if it is not downloading any new info, but takes 30-45 min to load?
Roamio Locks Up on Network Issue with Netflix or Amazon
Once every few days while watching Netflix or Amazon, streaming will pause and the Tivo will try to buffer more of the show - it usually gets up to 59% or something, hangs there about 15 seconds, and then drops to the main menu. If I try going back into Netflix, the Tivo will lock up and require a hard reboot.
One concern is the router, so I've after a buffering and timeout I've rebooted the router and waited and verified with other devices the wireless network is back up, but even with that if I try Netflix again the Tivo will hang. It's like it can't handle a disconnection very well and isn't able to reestablish a connection. I've taken to rebooting the router every 24 hours just in case it's causing the Tivo locks, but they've continued. Anyone else experiencing this?

pyTivo folder help...
OK, first, I'm a complete noob at this. I'm surprised I even got pytivo working and transferred files to my tivo.
With that being said, how do I make folders? I have some p90x3 videos that I made so I can do my workout in another room where my mini is. I found this old thread and it's what I want to do, but I don't understand it and it's also 4 years old, maybe there's a better way to make it work.

So if there's an easier way, please let me know. Again, this is a bit over my head but I'm trying.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Staying in control
The music fills in the spaces. Staying in control doesn't mean keeping away from any pointless dangers; In Color sees what's coming to it of encounters.

Lightly Used TiVo Mini For Sale
I have a 2-month old, barely used Tivo Mini for sale (TSN: A93000XXXXXX627). This unit comes with the lifetime service as part of its original activation. The unit is in perfect working condition, I just don't need to have two of them anymore after a recent move to a new house. It also comes with the remote (no batteries), HDMI cable, power cord and manual.
I am asking $110 shipped via USPS Priority Mail with tracking. I will accept Paypal Gift (where you pay the fee) or a USPS Money Order. Please contact me at mattld@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Thanks.

captions on by default in Amazon app?
Is there a way to enable closed captions by default in the Amazon app? It's driving me crazy. I can only seem to get them enabled for one episode.
Swap HDs from Series 1 to Series 2 Tivos
I have a tivo 1 gathering dust,
and a series 2 that just died.
The tivo 2 has lifetime so I keep
it for just basic cable.
Can I pluck out the series 1 hd
and put it in the series 2?
These are both tivo brand.
Both are old from back in the day!
Thanks

I'm adding an old Tivo HD at my other house
Although it's an old model, it's brand new and never has been activated/out of the original box. I know I have to connect it to the internet and let it add years worth of updates before I pair it with the Comcast card. My question is do I have to activate the Tivo before I can download the updates or can I get the updates and then activate the HD thru Tivo. I'm worried that the updates may take a couple of days and I'm concerned about how well the wireless adapter is going to work.
Is there anything else I'm not thinking about that I should plan for??
TIA

Just got a Tivo Survey
So, being a helpful guy I clicked on the link (they said I was special and I love being special) and started filling out the questionnaire. I never finished it cause they limit you in your responses. One question was what features are you most interested in. They listed about 15 like streaming, search, web apps, etc. But when I indicated which ones I liked they then wanted me to ONLY choose 5. Why 5 when I clearly followed the initial instructions. How can you choose just 5? Anybody else get this survey?
24 hours for activation?
Hi,
Activated a Mini this afternoon, went through setup and all was OK until I reached a screen that said Tivo DVR Not Found. My DVR (Roamio Plus) is plugged in and connected to the same network as the Mini, and is on the same acount.
I called Tivo for help with the problem, and they said activation requires up to 24 hours, I should just wait and see if the DVR is found tomorrow. The instructions with the Mini say to wait just 15 minutes.
So does it really take 24 hours? I have a feeling there is some other problem and the agent was just blowing me off.
Thanks,
b

TiVo Remote for Mini (with USB Dongle) Stopped Working in 2 Rooms
Came home today to find that the TiVo remote was no longer able to control my TV or TiVo Mini in my family room. I immediately assumed it was the remote breaking down somehow (maybe the kids dropped it one too many times?) only to find the exact same thing happened with my TiVo remote in our master bedroom (also a Mini). Oddly, both remotes no longer control the TV power or volume, and of course not the Mini. I have to use the TiVo app on my iOS devices to control either Mini.
The main TiVo remote that goes with my Roamio in my home theater still works, so I am surmising that this is some kind of software glitch. There is no way both remotes could have failed at the same time.
Has anyone else experienced the same, and is a fix known?
Thanks!

Anyone watching Grace and Frankie on Netflix?
New series on Netflix with some heavy-hitting stars...
Here's the Netflix summary...so I suppose this isn't a spoiler:
For as long as they can recall, Grace and Frankie have been rivals. Their one-upmanship comes crashing to a halt, however, when they learn that their husbands have fallen in love with each other and want to get married. As everything around the ladies is coming apart, the only thing they can really rely on is each other. This Netflix original re-teams Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin ("9 to 5") as Grace and Frankie, respectively, bringing their chemistry to the small screen. It's a casting reunion on a grand scale, as Tomlin is reunited with her co-star from "The West Wing," Martin Sheen, who plays Grace's husband, Robert. And Fonda is back with Sam Waterston, her co-star from "The Newsroom," who plays Frankie's husband, Sol.
We've watched 7 of the 13 episodes and we like it so far. I'll leave a discussion of the plots to another thread if there's interest.

pytivo'd shows reboot my TV
I've searched the forums here, and didn't find anything related to my problem, so here goes...
Sometimes, when I'm watching a show that I have transferred to my Roamio using pytivo, my television will turn off, and a second later, turn back on again.
The TV is a Panasonic 47PFL7403D/27.
I have an HDMI cable between the TiVo and the TV.
I have also had the same problem with my previous TiVo HDXL.
If I don't touch anything, the TV will turn back on and the show will still be playing. If I skip back to before where the TV turned off, it will not cause the TV to turn off again.
Some shows will trigger more than once. Some will play without triggering the problem.
Shows recorded on the TiVo do not cause a reboot.
I don't have a second TV to swap out for testing.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Going to cut the proverbial cord
I recently had an argument with Directv, and I have been a customer with them since the Primestar days, 1998 I believe, but I think it's time to part ways
My problem is that my main tv is a little old, it's a 65" Mitsubishi HD, that has no HDMI, just a DVI and component.
I would like to get a Tivo that can receive OTA and output to component, and it also has apps like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime
New or used with a lifetime would be great
What model would anyone recommend getting?

Zatz announces that Cox on Demand Finally Coming to Tivo
http://ift.tt/1EtRTvW
Via trusted sources, weve learned that TiVo is poised to launch Cox On Demand services nearly five years after an announced partnership that many have assumed to be dead. So while the various players dicker over the capabilities and implementation of a CableCARD successor, TiVo once again strikes a deal to build a custom solution. Im not sure whats in it for Cox, other than avoiding the remaining couple years of TiVos Time Warp patent teeth. But we clearly know the value to TiVo the DVR pioneer has previously indicated that retail sales and retention were higher within the Comcast footprint as Xfinity On Demand rolled out. (Granted, those regions had been bolstered by additional marketing.) Giving up free on demand content provided by ones cable provider is often a sticking point before going TiVo and Cox represents a sizable portion of TiVos addressable audience as the 5th largest compatible cable operator. Trust me, a large percent of my peers with children rely on On Demand, making a TiVo a non-starter in many cases. Its yet to be seen if the new TiVo Cox On Demand implementation retains the dated Xfinity approach or goes with a more modern HTML5 front-end. Regardless, given Coxs continued reliance on Switched Digital Video and over aggressive copy protection, Verizon FiOS is still probably the better choice assuming you have one.

Tivo HD S03 error
My Tivo 3 HD has a regular problem with an S03 error. I start getting messages saying my guide data is running out (with a specific date) and that I need to connect to service. This is an ethernet connected Tivo. When I try to connect I get a failure with an s03 error.
So, having gone through this over and over again...fixing it with hdd replacements (running tests on the hdd show it is error free) and Kickstart 57's I am trying to understand WHY this keeps happening because it is a pain. Recently I called Tivo tech and they suggested unplugging the ethernet cable for 3 days and then trying to connect again. WELL, this worked for whatever reason.
I have read some threads in here about using a timer on the tuning adapter (COX) and having it turn off every night for 4 hours. Is this something I should do? I am willing to by a cheap mechanical timer and plugging it in...but is this really what is going to solve this from happening every few months?
Anybody empathize with this issue or have any clues as to why this keeps happening.

TiVo Mini vs. TiVo Stream vs. 4-tuner Roamio vs. Pro & Plus
I've looked over the forums, and tivo.com, regarding the TiVo Mini and TiVo Stream, which only left me with more questions, so I'm hoping someone can help me piece all this together.
What would be the best solution to get my 4-tuner Roamio to have the same capabilities as my Roamio Pro & Plus, in streaming programs between them all via "Play" rather than the old multi-room transfer/delete, as well as outside the home via Tablet/Smartphone?
The easiest solution would be to just just replace the 4-tuner Roamio with another Pro or Plus, as it's all built-in to these, but I want to keep the 4-tuner Roamio for its OTA ability as backup for when cable is down, and still be able to stream programs between them all; that is, start in one room and finish in another, via "Play" rather than transfer/delete.
Currently, I can stream programs between my Roamio Pro and Plus, as well as stream from my 4-tuner Roamio to my Pro and Plus, but I cannot stream in the reverse, that is, from the Pro or Plus to the 4-tuner Roamio, I have to transfer/delete to the 4-tuner Roamio; i.e., I can stream from the 4-tuner Roamio to the others, just not to it.
Thus, would just getting one TiVo Mini allow me to stream from the Pro/Plus to the 4-tuner Roamio as well? And from looking at the install directions, would I just install it to any TV by itself, or does it have to be tied to the 4-tuner Roamio somehow, physically or through settings?
Plus, I am able to stream between the Pro and Plus without MoCa, via WiFi; my Pro is on Ethernet, the Plus and 4-tuner Roamio on WiFi. But I'm reading the Mini needs MoCa or Ethernet, no WiFi, so if I connect the Mini to an open HDMI on my TV in the living room and an Ethernet port on my router, while my 4-tuner is connected to a TV in my bedroom via WiFi, will this allow for program streaming in all directions between all three of my TiVo's? Or would I still have to create a MoCa network, I'm presuming thru the Pro? Or does the Mini somehow have to be physically connected to the 4-tuner Roamio? Would all TiVo's then have to either be MoCa or Ethernet? Currently I am able to stream between the Pro and Plus via WiFi.
Then, after all that is achieved... would I need to get a TiVo Stream in addition to the Mini in order to stream programs from my 4-tuner Roamio outside the home, as I can currently do with the Pro and Plus?
Thank you!

Mini problems with powerline--potential solution
Several of us have had problems connecting the mini using powerline adapters. The symptom is that the Mini loses connection with the main TiVo, even though you can watch live TV. Also, when watching something, you may get random messages that the network is not fast enough.
I may have a solution (at least it worked for me). I have the TP-LINK adapters. They come with "Powerline Utility" software. I was using the default plug and play settings when I was having the problem. I tried playing with the "Advanced QoS settigs" and found that the "Voice over IP" setting worked for me. I don't remember what the default was, but it caused problems. Hope this helps someone.

TWC customers eventually going to Charter -- Better, worse, or the same?
For those few with experience with both, what does Charter do differently that could eventually be applied to the current TWC customers? Thanks.
Breaking, Charter to buy Time Warner ( confirmed)
Just heard on the news, Charter confirms deal to buy Time Warner.
Series 3HD HDD Swap with image
Hello all.. So my modded Series 3HD OLED took a crap last week. The first thing I noticed was the notorious swollen caps on the PSU. I replaced those with new and proper ones. Also found a bad zener diode on the Oscillator side of the PSU, found it's value and replaced that. All voltages are correct, and I managed to get it to boot up, however after about 10 minutes it shut down and I noticed the HDD wasn't spinning...
So, I dove into the forum and got the programs I needed, and followed the various tutorials however I am still stuck because I can't get the old HDD to stay up long enough to grab the image. I do have a spare 2TB Seagate drive laying around if you guys feel this will work. I also managed to find an image torrent with a properly Model numbered TiVo, however the file extensions of the 2 included files aren't something the MFSLive is looking for under the restore portion.. So I could be completely doing this wrong or have hit a dead end. Anyone with some info on how to proceed further it would be greatly appreciated.

So I could be completely doing this wrong or have hit a dead end. Anyone with some info on how to proceed further it would be greatly appreciated.
Netflix "Between" Series Spoilers
On a whim I checked out Episode 1. It was okay enough to keep watching.
Plot: Small town Lord of the Flys. A mysterious illness is killing off people older than 21.
Oddly Netflix is releasing episodes weekly. Probably good, otherwise I'd probably binge it though I have more pressing stuff to do.

Considering Purchase - Compatibility with Control 4
Hi all,
I have a control 4 system which I use to manage our TV. Currently our Time Warner DVR box has an infrared interface which is used by Control4 to manage the device. I'm having trouble figuring out how an RF signal from the Romio can be utilized by the Control4 controller. Both the controller and the DVR are located in the far corner of our basement. The TV and the Control4 remote are on the first floor. Control4 uses Zigbee protocol to send signals.
Any one have experience with this or can shed light on how to make the Control4 remote work with Romio?
TIA,
Mark

Charter+Brighthouse+Time Warner=?
I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling. Now that the Comcast+TW deal has been nixed, there is a new Charter+TW+Brighthouse deal in the works.
Will the new mega-merger be able to produce customer service even worse than Comcast? Stay tuned to find out :-).

One Pass issues
Ever since the Onepass update I'm having a terrible time trying to get shows to record.
The latest example is "Hannibal". It premieres on June 4 on NBC. It's on the schedule. I set up a new Onepass for it and it shows 'no upcoming episodes' though it's clearly on the schedule and it allows me to set up a manual recording. What gives?
This same thing has happened to several shows starting their summer seasons. If I don't manually record them, I miss them though I have Onepass set up.

Tivo Wireless N Adapter
I bought a new router and needed to re-configure the Tivo wireless N adapters. The first one went fine. The second kept throwing an error and appeared to reboot repeatedly (amber light to blue to amber to blue etc.)
I chatted with tech support, and they told me to try the power adapter from the working adapter. I did that. Same results.
Finally I decided to just plug the adapter into the Tivo and see what happens. It worked.
I didn't take note of the firmware on the adapter that worked right way, but the version on the one that gave an error is V1.1.E1 | Hardware version: FF03. I could find no way to update firmware. The help instructions say to go to http://ift.tt/1KvEqfs which just routes to a generic help site that has no information about firmware.
Should I ever need to update the settings on these adapters again, I'd like to get an actual success message instead of an error that allows it to still magically work.
I did do the "factory reset" procedures more than a dozen times.

Silicon Valley - "Adult Content" OAD 5/24/15
Another good episode for me, not nearly as funny as last week but still good. Seemed to be a good setup for the rest of the season.
Loved the Gavin / Bighead scene with the brain control of the iPhone and Gavin going from "yes, I'm saved" to "WTF? idiots" moment :)
Pretty much anything with Gilfoyle is awesome.
Nice to see Richard growing a bit and starting to be a CEO - I liked the way they handled the Erlich CEO moment with the secretary at End Game
And yes, I'm 12 but I thought the names of the Adult companies were hilarious

TiVo Direct - Disappearing DVR
I'm trying to copy files from my Roamio to my PC (Windows 7) using TiVo Direct. I click on "Pick files to Transfer". A list of the files on my DVR appears. But in few seconds, whether I select any or do nothing, the list disappears and I get a message "There are no DVRs".
A few seconds later the list reappears, then disappears. If I am fast enough I can select programs to transfer before the list disappears. Sometimes the transfers complete, sometimes they don't and I wind up with empty files on my PC.
I know my network (Ethernet) is OK since I have to Minis connected to the Roamio which work just fine.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Channel Specific Searches
is it possible for Roamio to list all the shows on a particular channel (HBO, TMC, etc) for the duration of the program guide? Right now I go to TVGuide.com for that listing, but it sure would be less cumbersome if it was somehow available directly from the TiVo channel guide
Program TV Input Button
S3 Standard Tivo remote
My input button works fine for the tv but I'd like to change it to switch inputs on my Pioneer receiver. When you program the button the only options are tv codes, naturally.
Anyone know how to do this?

Tivo with Closed Caption Issue
I have two tivo series 1. One has been upgraded and is hooked to my cable box. It operates perfectly. ;) I have resurrected a 2nd tivo series 1 (not upgraded) to hook to a simple digital adapter. It also works fine, but for one irritating issue. No Closed Captioning.
Both Tivo's are set up the same, all settings mirrored. My 'guess' is that the upgraded Tivo has a better video quality pass through than the other.(This unit is also hooked to the Composite Video input on the TV where the other is using RF) I purchased the Upgraded Tivo as is, and do not know what upgrades were done, other than a larger hard drive.
Does anyone know what could cause this, and even more, what can I do to the non-upgraded unit to get CC operational? I'm considering a cache card and an wondering if the additional memory that this would add would be enough to get CC working again.

Retiring my tivo
I'm retiring my TiVo and moving to my cable companies DVR. After switching, Cani just hook up an HDMI cable to watch the shows that I have already recorded on my TIVO?

HDMI connection not permitted
Everything was working fine when I went to bed last night and now I keep getting "HDMI connection not permitted" on my Roamio.
I've tried power cycling and removing / reinserting HDMI cords.
Ideas?

Group Button Disappeared
After this last update where the OnePass went in, I can no longer press the c button on the MyShows screen to turn groups on and off. Is this a known issue?
S3 - blue light on front panel and nothing else
So I just got home about an hour ago and noticed one of my S3's had no display other than the blue light. I go over to that input and there's no image or anything on screen. I pull the plug to reboot and still just a blue light. I open it up and the fan isn't spinning but the HDD is. I swap out the power supply with a spare I have from a new S3 and it's still just a blue light and nothing else. What could the issue be?
Game of Thrones 5.24.15 The Gift
It's almost like it was s bad idea to hand the keys to the castle to s bunch of religious fanatics. I guess now we see what Tommen is made of. He better partner up with the queen if thorns, quick.
Seems like Jamie nearly outed himself to his daughter.
That was some precise timing on the deadly poison.
Glad Mormont finally caught up with Daenerys. PLEASE TAKE THE GIFT.
Poor Sansa. Her one hope dashed. I guess now she really knows just how brainwashed Theon is. Like I said last thread though, to think that is as bad as it gets shows a real lack of imagination. And if there's anything Ramsey doesn't lack for it's imagination.
I almost forgot Sam! One narrowly avoided rape and he got his cherry popped. Bravo. Nice timing, Ghost. Should have listened and gotten south of the wall. With Jon gone it's no place for Sam or his little family.

Zatz announces Plex will Hit TiVo's next week
I am not sure if this has made the rounds yet or not. Last we heard Plex was scheduled to officially rollout on June 8, but Dave seems to think the rollout will begin next week.
http://ift.tt/1RfSeeV
He is confirming a few rumors:
It will be a top level app in the Music & Photos section
It will NOT require a Plex Pass
It will NOT integrate with OnePass
It will initially deploy as 720P with an update later to 1080P
It makes a lot of sense to put it in the Music & Photo section simply to avoid confusion about the lack of OnePass integration. That and Plex is for all your personal / local media - Movies, TV, Photos, and Music.
This is a Blog post showing several UI screens for Smart TV's... I would have shown a few more of the video screen options - but if you haven't seen Plex, this will give you an idea of the presentation.

Use remote to change channels with -1 (ex. 5-1)?
I'm new to Tivo and just bought the Tivo Roamio OTA. Is there any way to change channels directly to another channel using the remote control number buttons? For example, if I want to change to channel 5-1, can I do that directly using the remote number buttons? When I enter only 5, it says that channel doesn't exist and I then have to use the channel up button to get to 5-1. I would think it would default to 5-1, especially with the OTA model.
pyTivoMetaThis thetvdb timeouts
Does anyone know if pyTivoMetaThis is an active project?
Have any of you tweaked it yourself to fix problems?
I noticed that this kept timing out for me, and in the code it was doing this:
mirrorsURL = "the mirror url is here, but the forum won't let me post it" % APIKEY
mirrorsXML = parse(urllib2.urlopen(mirrorsURL, None, timeout))
But according to thetvdb, this is deprecated and you can simply hardcode it like this:
mirrorsXML="<Mirrors><Mirror><id>1</id>
<mirrorpath>http://ift.tt/1FOy4GY;
After making this change it seems to be working better, but I've only tested it a few times.
Have any of you tweak the code in ways that help make this work better? Would love to hear about any improvements you can suggest. Thanks!

The ultimate solution..does anyone have it?
Here's what I want (and am close to having it)
1. Shows automatically downloaded using uTorrent via RSSFeeds. (Disclaimer: I only legal downlows of course)
2. When uTorrent completes, configure uTorrent to auto run filebot which cleans up the files titles and neatly organized them. This also helps increase the success during step 3:
filebot -script fn:amc --output "E:\utorrentrenamed\videos" --log-file E:\utorrentrenamed\amc.log --action copy --conflict override -non-strict --def music=y subtitles=en artwork=y "ut_label=%L" "ut_state=%S" "ut_title=%N" "ut_kind=%K" "ut_file=%F" "ut_dir=%D"
After filebot completes, run a scheduled program that:
3. uses pyTivoMetaThis to fetch the metadata files which are needed for Tivo to groups shows in folders
4. automatically push to PyTivo which will transfer to the tivo.
----
Does anyone have anything like this working? I don't have everything working quite yet, but am extremely close. When this is set up, my shows should automatically just appear on my Tivo without the need to do anything.
Steps 3 and 4 are accomplished using a Java program I wrote. I might be interested in sharing the solution if there was interest.
If there's another solution that does all this, I'm also interested in hearing about it. I like coding, but don't want to re-invent the wheel.

Poor tuner in Roamio?
Hooking up OTA antenna to Roamio, finds all channels, but when watching many say no signal, or picture tiles and breaks up. Change antenna directly to Samsung 60" HDTV, receives all stations with perfect picture on all. All antennas here in Phoenix area are at same location, 18.3 miles from my house. Is the tuner in the Roamio that bad?
Desktop Plus - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Just upgraded to Desktop Plus because I wanted to be able to push home made content to a tivo from the computer without having to take a week to get pytivo's conversion settings to work properly.
For those considering the same move, here's the insanity of Desktop Plus:
If you use Plus to convert/push files to the tivo, even personal files of videos you make yourself, the stupid thing tags them with the "Do Not Copy" bit set so you can't copy them to another TiVo.
I could see doing that if the original file had the bit set, but to put it on every file it converts and pushes is brain dead. Utterly brain dead.
And one other thing: It does fine with MP4 files, but if you put an AVI file into the push folder, it slams my i7 processor to the wall with all 8 cores at 100%. I've never seen my CPU temperature at 82 degrees C before, and my nVidia GPU at 110 degrees C. And that's with the process set at the lowest priority in Task Manager. Wow.
Maybe I'll have another look at pytivo.

I Love Lucy Superstar Special
Hi ALL,
Did anyone watch this. I was always a fan of I Love Lucy but haven't seen any in a long time so I recorded this. When I finally got around to watching I was pleasantly surprised on how nice the image was. Yes, it was colorized and I know a lot of people hate that but I don't mind it and I thought it must have used a new process as the colors were very nice and saturated. Other colorized things I've seen in the past always seemed washed out and not looking very good. Here there was a nice sharpness to the image with quite good contrast. When some of the woman wore dark pants they were really dark.
Does anyone know if they re-mastered the episodes. If so that would explain why it looked so good.
As far as the episodes I always liked the one with William Holden and although I must have seen it a hundred times I still laughed through the whole episode. In fact I laughed more than when I watch some modern comedies!! The Superman episode was one of my least favorites but it still was fun to watch. Why didn't they pick another episode for the second half. One of my other favorites is the one with John Wayne!
Anyway it was a lot of fun to watch!

TIVO Roamio will only transfer one show at a time
For some reason, my TIVO Roamio will only allow me to transfer one show at a time from other TIVOS. I have a Series 2 and a Premiere. It does not allow any other shows to be transferred until the first one is completed. My older TIVOs simply put the additional shows requested for transfer into the To Do List. The Roamio will not do that. When I contacted TIVO Customer Service the guy said basically "Thats the way the Roamio works, Have a Nice day"!

UFC Prefight Show 4-5 PM
UFC Prelims 5-7 PM
UFC Post Fight Show 10:30-11:30 PM
At ~10:45PM when the fights were over, I tried to watch all this. I selected UFC Prefight show from My Shows & it had recorded CNN programing! (CNN is ch 1036, But, TiVo listed this recording as FS1 1031) Could see the CNN logo in the lower right yet, when I hit INFO button it said it was FS1 1031. I skimmed thought & it was all CNN programming. I then deleted it & tried to watch UFC Prelims show & it again was CNN. Again could see the CNN logo in the lower right yet, when I hit INFO button it said it was FS1 1031.
Finally I tried to watch post fight show & it was in fact the FS1 post fight show.
I called Cox & they claim no issues & it was not them. That leaves TiVo &/or the company that does the channel lineup for TiVo.
Obviously , this fiasco made me miss 2 programs I wanted to see.
Im in Phoenix, AZ.

Parents considering TiVO
I have been a customer of Tivo for 12 years, and now my parents are considering getting one to replace their Fios DVR.
They have one TV in the living room, and 1 downstairs that is not HD.
They would like to be able to watch the programs from the main Tivo onto the TV downstairs.
I was thinking of a Roamio and a Mini, but the problem is is that the rooms are not next to each other (the cable modem is on the 2nd floor and one TV is in the basement)
Would I need to run network cables from the cable modem to both TV's or is their another option. There is coax in the 3 places...

Orphan Black 5/23/15 "Certain Agony of the Battlefield"
Dang, Alison and Donnie sure got freaky! I guess dealing drugs will do that to you...
She wont last out there. If the desert doesnt get her, Rudy will. Geez, lady, have you even MET Helena?!? This is a woman who eats her imaginary friends!
Alison has a plan. [shudder]
The dream conversation between Beth and Sarah was this episodes moment when I forgot its the same actor...
I think its even more clear that Cosimas new little friend is a mole. And even knowing that shes Kenzie, I can barely recognize her.
Wonder who, if anybody, Paul took with him? That was quite a blast
Awww, Sarah and Helena are reunited! How sweet...
Concerns were expressed around the end of last season that the show might become too convoluted. Im starting to fear that thats whats happening now. Especially since the newly-retconned backstories are bending some of the characters (Delphine, especially Paul) to or past the breaking point...

TCF consumes lots of memory on Android Chrome
Whenever I surf TCF with chrome on my android phone (Nexus 5), it's memory usage goes through the roof and other background apps get killed as a result.
I suspect that it has to do with the third party advertising delivery on the site, because when I surf other vBulletin web forums that have no ads at all, I do not see this issue, but I do see this same behavior in other websites that seem to have similar advertising sources.

Anything you all have done to cut down on partial TTG transfers
I was wondering if you all have done anything that seems to cut down on the number of recordings that will only transfer partially. This may be that the signal coming into the Tivo was not strong enough or perhaps something else. I know perhaps there is a high likelihood that the event of a recording encountering a glitch that prevents a complete transfer is something that is not related to anything in particular. I was just wondering if there was perhaps anything that could be done to help prevent this issue from occurring in the future.
Love my tivo roamio, but comcast is a nightmare
After 17 years, I finally decided to pull the plug on my old cable company and switch back to Comcast for tv and internet. Almost immediately, Ive come to regret that decision.
I also decided to purchase a shiny new Tivo Roamio Plus to replace my trusty old Series3 that Ive had for the last 8 years. Based on what I read online, I was expecting to have a bit of a headache with Comcast in getting their service working with a Tivo and a cablecard. I had no idea just how much of a problem it would actually be.
My service install appointment was scheduled for 1:00PM on Thursday. The technician calls me in the morning and says hes running ahead of schedule and asks if its ok for him to come around 11:30. Kudos to him for showing up early! However, he didnt bring the cablecard that I ordered. He admitted that he hadnt really looked at my order before heading over. He also mentioned that they didnt really support cablecards anymore and offered me one of their HD boxes. I reminded him that the FCC requires them to support cablecards and I asked him to check and see if one was available. He made a few calls and said they were out of them at the warehouse and the card would have to be shipped in from another state. I called the toll-free Comcast number and explained the situation. They told me they had 6 cablecards available at the local office. She spoke to the technician, who then called his supervisor. He told his supervisor that he was too busy to deal with this today and told me that I would have to go to the local office and pick one up myself and do a self-install. He then proceeded to string an orange cable across my yard and installed a new interface box on the side of my house. I asked him about the cable in the yard, and he told me that another team would be by in a week or so to bury it. Now, I live in an older neighborhood with overhead wires, but I figured this was just their new way of doing things.
As soon as he got the internet up and running, I went to the main office and picked up a cable card. I installed it as directed by the instructions and called the cablecard hotline to have it activated. Two hours later, I was still on the phone with them and unable to get the card set up properly. The agent on the phone told me the cablecard was provisioned as a cable box instead of a cablecard on my account. According to him, the only way to get this corrected was to drive back to the local office and have them change it in their system, as there is no working number for my local comcast office. I drove across town to the office and spoke with a desk agent. They changed the provisioning in two seconds with a sorry and a smile. I drove home and called Comcast again. They still couldnt get the card activated and scheduled a truck-roll. The earliest appointment was for Saturday morning.
Saturday morning, a very nice technician shows up. I explain the situation to him and the first thing he does is examine the wiring on the outside of the house. He ripped out everything the installer put in and ran new cables (overhead) and new cables to the cable modem and living room. He apologized for the poor job the installer did and was generally very helpful. He called the Comcast back office and tried to get my cablecard activated, but ran into the same problems I did. They determined that it was a defective card and would need to be replaced, but the earliest they could bring me a new card would be Tuesday (4 days later).
When the technician left, I returned to the local office and swapped the cablecard for a new one, thinking Id do the self-install again. I explained what had happened the first time I picked up a cable card (that it was provisioned as a cablebox) and asked him to make sure that it was provisioned in their system as a cablecard. He assured me it was correct and I was off to try again.
I called the cablecard activation hotline again and ran through the same thing again. Once again, the cablecard was entered into the system as a box and not a card and they said that it was not something they could change, only the local office could change it. After being transferred approximately 12 times over 4 hours, they finally changed it in their system but was still unable to get the card activated properly. Now they are telling me the card had already been paired with a cable box, so its impossible to pair it with my Tivo.
Since its the holiday weekend, I now get to wait until Tuesday for another truck-roll. Most likely, they will neglect to bring a cable card with them.
Im curious WHY Comcast has such poor support for cablecard devices and why nobody (even in their cablecard hotline) seems to know anything about cablecards or tivo.
Im over it. Im DEEPLY regretting switching back to comcast.
On a side-note, the Roamio does a great job with Netflix, Amazon and Youtube. Since I can't watch TV, it's keeping me entertained.

Sling TV?
Is Tivo planning on adding Sling TV to the supported services soon? I'm setting up a Home system for 5 TV's and prefer the Romio OTA but the lack of Sling is a deal killer.

MoCa net configuration issues :(
I can't get my MOCA network to work. The first time I talked to Tivo support, they suggested a 2.4 Ghz or better splitter. I installed that. Still doesn't work. I talked to Tivo support again, they said I need to get a 2 input splitter to combine the ATT and Antenna inputs. See diagrams attached for my setup.
A) will this really work?
B) where do I buy this type of splitter? Been googling all morning looking for this and can't seem to locate what I need.

Reruns recording on New Only Onepass
I just got the TiVo Premiere through Suddenlink and I noticed that several timers I set up for shows as New Only are also recording reruns. Is this normal?

Supergirl- leaked pilot discussion **SPOILERS**
Moving the discussion to an appropriate thread.
Overall, I liked it but didn't love it. It felt very by-the-numbers and had very little originality. i'm willing to give it another chance and see where it goes, though.

KMTTG transfer from Computer to TiVo
I want to transfer a TiVo Video from my Computer Hard Drive to my TiVo Premiere.
I can ADD videos to the FILE Tab, but when I Right-Click, there is no menu.
My Premiere does not see my Computer.
Please help.

Refine "Suggestions"
There is really no need for the Suggestions to record any show that I have a One Pass setup for. If I want repeats the One Pass will grab them. If I do not want repeats or episodes earlier than a set season then why would I be interested in the shows as "suggestions"? Right now that just adds a task to my routine--check the suggestions and delete these repeats.
Sorting in program folders?
I like the sorting options in the program folders but have run into something puzzling.
I transferred a bunch of shows from my S3 to the new Roamio, and set folder sorting up such that the oldest ones are at a the top of the list, which I like better than the way the S3 did things.
So then the Roamio started recording new shows, and the new shows it recorded appear at the top of the list instead of at the bottom. The shows that followed the new recordings were still in the order I wanted (oldest to newest), but new shows always go to the top of the list instead of the bottom.
I sort of worked around that by reordering the sort so it was by 'season', but I don't like that nearly as much, preferring to see the date of the recording.
Anyone know why new shows always appear at the top the way they do when I've told it to sort by date?

Transferred shows get "stuck"
The main reason I decided to go with Tivo (some time ago) was because it allowed me to transfer shows and movies off the DVR to an external drive (to save space).
Recently, however; when I've gone to "Now Playing" on my laptop to transfer something back to the Tivo (to watch) - I'll select Start Playing, and -- invariably -- anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes into the movie, the transfer will stop- and a button pops up saying "Getting more of the show, wait a minute and press play" (or something similar to that).
No matter how long I wait (15 minutes, etc.) - it never resumes.
This is a new occurrence -- the last couple of months. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Chris

No Sound in Amazon Streaming
Recently when I try to watch a show on amazon prime streaming it plays with no sound. Is this a known issue? Is there anyway to fix it?
Where does Tivo save shows to first ? External or Internal HD ?
Hi guys. First post, go easy :)
I am getting a Roamio today, upgrading from a Q with an external HD.
I want to save a lot of my shows to my external extended myDVR hard drive and just move that from the Q to the Roamio. Does anyone know how I can do that ?
thanks in advance. This is thru my cable company , RCN.

YouTube Stuttering
For the last few months (probably since last update) I have been experiencing incredibly annoying stuttering while playing videos in the YouTube application on my Premiere XL4.
This is not a matter of network buffering as the navigation bar shows plenty of buffer space and it occurs even at the end of a video after the buffer has filled completely.
I noticed a single thread on the Tivo support forums. Has anyone else been seeing similar problems? I do not have any issues when using my Mini and I have not tried it on my S3.

Tivo Onepass not recording
Hi guys,
After doing some digging, i THINK I know whats happening and why, but I'm hoping ya'll can help clarify.
I have a show set to record with onepass for 'repeats and first runs' but I noticed it hasn't been recording much lately. At all. I made sure its set to record all channels. The 'Upcoming' lists a bunch of episodes but none are set to be recorded. I couldn't figure out why.
The history of my Recordings shows that these shows weren't recorded for the reason 'Duplicate'. This doesn't make any sense to me, as the episode listed is not recorded currently on the Tivo. We have 5 episodes of it at the moment, and the recording setting is set to allow 10.
Am I running into the 28 day rule here? This episode may have been recorded recently, and we probably watched it and deleted it, but I'd like to have it recorded again. The 28 day rule is the only thing that makes sense.
Since OnePass no longer has an 'everything' option, I went ahead and setup a WishList to record everything. However, am I also correct in thinking that it'll record the same episode multiple times? So Season1 Episode1 might have 3 copies on my Tivo now?
Is there any middle ground between these 2 options. I want repeats to be recorded, even if they fall into the 28 day rule, but I don't want multiple copies of the SAME episode at the same time.
Am I making sense?

will this solve the todo list refresh while scrolling through it? So far so good, no annoying refresh... Yet.
HDMI and RCA audio sync issue
I have a Roamio Pro, connected to a newer 60" Samsung LED panel via HDMI, and also connected to a whole-home audio receiver via RCA stereo output (from the Tivo). The receiver does not have any digital inputs so it has to be analog/RCA. The audio that comes out of the TV does not sync with the audio coming out of the whole-home receiver setup.
I've experienced this issue in the past with other Tivo's too.
I wrote Tivo to ask if there's any way to get audio from the HDMI and the RCA ports syncronized. I was told that "there really isn't, the TiVo is meant to output from just one source at a time. Using both the audio from HDMI and RCA generally will create a lag or problem with syncing. We recommend using only HDMI audio."
How have others dealt with this issue? I am wondering if the optical/digital/toslink audio out would be better-sync'd with the HDMI (the Tivo rep didn't know if it would or wouldn't be). If it is, I could maybe try using that audio source for my whole-home receiver (pass it through a digital-to-analog adapter, then to the receiver). I could also try splitting the Tivo's HDMI output, sending one signal to the TV and the other to an HDMI audio extractor and then on to the analog whole-home receiver.
I don't know if either of those options would work though, would love to hear what others have done.

D*TV TiVo Advice Please
Haven't posted here in ages, but thought I'd get some advice from the experts.
We're giving up "city life" for a more laid back rural experience on the pacific coast. Right now we're enjoying our Premiere XL and a Series3 that's still going strong, both with lifetime subs.
Although it's less than two-hour's drive, the home we're buying doesn't have "normal" cable service (yet) so satellite or OTA are the only options. AFAIK OTA isn't so good there. FWIW their "high speed" broadband is DSL. OMG! So I'm a bit apprehensive on a couple of levels. That being said, we're doing this.
The two satellite options are Dish and D*TV with D*TV being the only one offering a TiVo-based DVR.
When I look at the specs I feel like I'm stepping back in time with "wish lists", "swivel search" and so on. Are they that far behind? It apparently only has a 500GB hard drive as well. :( A TiVo sub is an added cost to consider.
Soooo...my dilemma...stick with TiVo and suffer through their antiquated version or bite the bullet and go with D*TV's "Genie" DVR - which comes as close to modern TiVo specs as anything else. (I'm also leaning toward D*TV due to the additional rugby programming which Dish doesn't offer.)
If I were to stick with a D*TV TiVo could I get two machines, one for each TV? That would give us the semi-luxury of having four tuners and double the storage. However I can't tell if they are capable of transferring or streaming content from one to the other. If not, that's not too helpful. I'm guessing I couldn't upgrade to a larger hard drive like I've done with past TiVos either.
So what would you do?
TIA! :)
EDIT: I found some more info about D*TV TiVos at Weaknees...and it wasn't very positive. They can add additional storage which is good, but that's about it. It appears that if I want the kind of service I have currently...record four channels at once, view all recordings on either TV, etc., I'm going to have to go with DirecTV's Genie DVR. *Sigh* Can anyone prove this theory wrong? It would be awesome if so!
