Analog Cable and TIVO?

Tivo Experts:

I get internet service via my cable company and have analog TV through the same line. The company continues analog since it has about 50% of its customers who want the cheaper service and could care less about HD and digital. It all comes down to the $$$$. I want to buy a Tivo with lifetime service fees paid on EBAY but I am not sure what would work without having a cable box or card. At the moment I just split the cable to internet and to TV and my TV picks up the analog TV and a few digital channels like ABC, CBS, and NBC.

I just want to pick up the analog cable channels and record shows for convenience via the guide as the TIVO is expected to do. I have a wireless/ethernet router set up at the main TV for internet, alarm system, and internet phone service. I have a Samsung Smart TV that I want to use the TIVO for.

What series of Tivo can I get? I see the lifetime free fee Tivo 2 series are the most cost effective for what I want to do. Do you think the Tivo 3 or 4 series will work with analog TV?
