With my morning coffee, as I usually do, I watched David Letterman (for the last time). Only the last show was cut-off with about 10 minutes left.
Now, Tivo will say they get schedules from Tribune Media. True enough but I paid Tivo $399.00 for lifetime service (meaning online schedules), which is not cheap. I did not pay Tribune Media. Tivo must be one of Tribune Media's biggest customers, if not THE biggest. But Tivo seems willing to let things like this slide.
Maybe Tivo thinks things like this aren't important. Tivo is going to make itself obsolete if this continues. Online is the competitive threat on Tivo's horizon and if shows keep getting clipped on Tivo, on-demand starts looking better all the time (even if they don't let us fast forward through commercial breaks). Now Tivo may say, pad the recording. Well, I have learned to pad shows the run after sporting events. No reason to expect that a regular show will run over with no adjustment to the schedule. Tivo replaced my VCR because Tivo offered set it and forget it convenience, including recording times being automatically updated for schedule changes. That was Tivo's reason for being but without that, what's the point? What am I getting for my $400 bucks (with multi-user discount).
Tivo needs to fix this if they expect to keep selling boxes and subscriptions. Recording TV is Tivo's basic and essential function; the other bells and whistles are way down the list.
