Mini-Jack USB LAN

Has anyone any idea if a USB lan connector can be used through the 1/8" minijack serial connection ona Series 1 Tivo?

I've found a cable, and both a wireless and wired LAN connector, but am wondering how it might work as far as pin-outs and dialing codes.
