OTA- Roku & HDD

I am planning on buying the Tivo Roamanio OTA. I have read that it is best to put a new internal HDD in. What is the best kind of Drive to get, what is maximum size, are there problems replacing the drive?

My TV has 1 HDMI port---- do most people use the USB ports for their ROKU 3 players in that case?
