I recently got the Slingbox 500 from the Woot deal. I wanted to hook it up to my TiVo Mini and use its passthrough port option. However, I was not aware of the HDMI copy protection. Therefore, it will not allow me to watch the TiVo Mini when out of the home. I can watch it perfectly fine in the home though.
I realize I can use the component connections on the Slingbox in order to avoid this issue, but I have the Mini hooked up to an Onkyo Home theater & it integrates well this way. I am thinking that using the component connections will not work as well.
of course, another option is to use the component connection to the Slingbox and then the HDMI connection to the Onkyo receiver as usual. I would have to get a breakout cable and am looking into this as well.
After reading some stuff online, I am also seeing that some HDMI splitters will strip the HDMI protection & I could do this as well. Will my Onkyo HD receiver maybe somehow strip the protection as well?
Any other suggestions on how to strip the HDMI protection from the Mini in order to watch it out of the home?
