Actiontec adapter question

I installed an Actiontec ecb6000 and it works great but I got to thinking how in the world is it getting thru my router to connect to the internet? As far as I can see my router does not see it. DHCP has not assigned it an IP, it's not in the routing table and according to the instructions I got when I did a firmware upgrade on the adapter the IP it does use is static and nowhere near the IP range I use on my network.

So how is my router and the firewall allowing this adapter to see the outside world?
