Samsung Optimum DVR vs Tivo Bolt

I had originally had the Samsung whole house Optimum DVR and noticed that the 1080i channels were often as sharp or even a bit sharper than my Directv HR54. That wasn't the case with 720p, when I forced 720p output from the Directv receiver, or used Native passthrough. In that case the Directv was sharper than 720p output from the Samsung Optimum DVR.
