Remote controls and my A/V system

I have a Premiere that I programmed the remote control for a Sony TV and a Sony A/V system. Works great. So I bought another remote (Tivo C00221 Replacement Remote) for the other bedside table. It can turn on the TV and A/V system but will not control the volume and will not power off the A/V system. Actually I don't think it works at all as I think maybe Bravia sync is powering the A/V on when the TV is turned on. Why would one remote work great and a new remote not work with any of the Sony codes. I made a note that code 1176 was the one to use when I programmed the original Premiere remote. This code does not have the same affect on the new remote. Ideas?
