I have a Premiere 2 tuner Series 4 (stock) and know there are fan replacement options etc. and have read some threads before regarding this - HOWEVER - this particular Tivo is being used as a cable box only - just for the cable card slot and tuner/remote. No Tivo service, and no cable box rental... only a very small cable card rental instead.
So the fan is acting up - making noise. I believe the box uses the internal HDD for the TivoOS - otherwise I'd just unplug the fan and the drive. If the fan burns out then the drive may likely go soon after? there's really no sense paying for anything to "fix" this box - I would be better off buying another, used - or buying the modern day counterpart...which brings the next question. Has anything happened in the new hardware/software (Roamio) to block users from using it as a cable box only?
