Witnesses aka Les témoins (French show/Netflix) Spoilers

Netflix recently added a six part miniseries from France to their catalog called "Witnesses." It's a crime mystery thriller that follows a female detective on some intertwined cases that end up involving one of her retired instructors from training.

As much as I like seeing Paris, it's nice to have a show that is not set there. This one takes place in and around the coastal town of Le Tréport in northern France. I found it amusing to spot some of the shooting locations and b-roll flyovers from Google's aerial photography of the place.

Character development isn't as rich as "Spiral" (highly recommended if you like the idea of a a crime show set in the gritty parts of Paris and can start at season one), but then again that show has had four seasons and this one has had six hours. The story takes its time to unfold, and the last episode is a sort of epilogue that ties everything up (perhaps a bit contrived in some ways) with a bow.

The NY Times has a "review" (more of a synopsis really): http://ift.tt/1A9FQc6
