My HD XL (vintage 2008) just died. I was going to replace it with a Bolt and some Minis, but I have a fatal flaw: I have a very old AVR and I distribute video to the main TV over a 90' component video link. So I must have component video (HD) out and also optical audio. At first I thought I could use a mini with a component breakout cable, but it does not have digital audio (TOSlink) output!
My fallback is a Tivo Premiere XL4, which has the component and digital audio out. I would also need 3 Tivo Minis (one for each of the other TVs in the house). My questions to those who have these units:
1) does the current generation Tivo Mini work well with the Premiere XL4?
2) how well does the MOCA network work? I assume it will co-exist on the cable with Time Warner digital cable?
3) are you generally happy with the performance of the Premiere XL4?
