For those of you who use the A/V output on the Tivo Mini with the breakout cable to get composite video and L/R analog audio, I have some questions. The Tivo website is terrible at publishing specifications and I could not find this information there.
In short here are my questions. More explanation below for those that are interested.
1. If the Mini is set to HD (1080i) output, does the composite output SD video at the same time?
2. If the Mini is set to output Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, does the L/R analog audio output stereo at the same time?
More information:
Here is my current setup: I have a Tivo HD XL with HDMI, RGB Component and NTSC composite video outputs, all simultaneously active. It also has SPDIF and L/R analog audio. I feed the HD component video to my 70" LCD and feed the SPDIF to a pre-HDMI Denon AVR to watch TV in the living room with surround sound. I feed the SD composite video and L/R audio to an RF modulator to send SD video to the rest of the house along with IR repeaters. In this way, I can watch the Tivo on any TV in the house (albeit in standard resolution) Note: the Tivo is set to output 1080i video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. The Tivo performs a down-resolution conversion to get the SD composite video and stereo downmix on the Dolby Digital for the L/R analog audio.
Fast forward to the present. I was thinking of getting a Bolt and a Tivo Mini and use the Mini to feed the RF modulator. This will only work if I can get HD video on the component video output and SD video on the composite simultaneously. Also, I need DD 5.1 audio on the HDMI and stereo audio on the L/R outputs.
If the above scheme will work, I can keep my current TVs and house wiring. In order to switch to the Bolt with HDMI-only, I would need a new AVR and a way to send HDMI about 90 feet. Also, 2 newer TVs with HDMI input. Not optimal :-(
Thanks.
