Have a Roamio Basic (500 GB) about 2 1/2 years old, old WD expander hooked up, lifetime service. Turned on the TV the other day to see the "Wecome! Starting up" screen. Left it on for about 20 min, but it never got past that screen. Uplugged and tried again. After 40 min, still no progress. Green circle is lit, that screen stays up for about 25-30 sec, then everything flashes, then it starts again. Unplugged at least 5 more times, leaving it off up to 12 hours between tries, but it never got any further. Also tried booting with various combinations of peripherals unplugged or removed (in the case of CableCard), all the way up to having only the power in. Nothing.
So, I attempted some "fixes":
1) I tried a laptop power supply that puts out 120-240V @ 2.5A, but same behavior.
2) I opened the unit and made sure all connections to the HD and power were secure. Everything looked and felt good, although I'm obviously not an electrician or PC expert. Didn't solder anything, in other words :-)
3) Next, I tested the HD on my PC (SeaTools from Seagate) with a USB dock. Failed both the long and short generic tests, but passed the "Quick" test. Uh oh, right?
4) Figured it was fried, so I threw a WD Red 3TB in there just now, but I'm getting the exact same behavior after 25 minutes.
Anybody got ideas for me? I have SquareTrade on it, but I only paid like $100 for the thing originally which won't buy me much of anything -- and the Roamio Basic isn't even available anymore. I'm also super bummed I might lose Lifetime after less than 3 years.
Edit 1: Tried the power adapter from my TA (Cisco STA 1520) and nada.
Edit 2: Tivo CS replied to my email from yesterday to basically say that, "Unfortunately, All In Service (is that what they call lifetime now?) cannot be transferred...but you should buy a new Tivo and invest upfront again because the technology just keeps improving!"
