Why does my roamio turn itself off when I split hdmi

My TV has only one HDMI input. I have tried two different HDMI splitters. Each time I connect, my Roamio turns off. I still see a green light, but it needs to be unplugged from splitter, unplugged from power and restarted. Splitters work fine with my Apple TV. I want to connect my Apple TV and Roamio with a push button splitter. Please help!
