freezing

my romio plus is now 2 1/2 years old. watching tv is fine.When I watch a recorded movie I can't get thru the complete show without it freezing or pixelating a few times.When I got the unit new I replaced the HD to a 3tb. Is my HD going bad ? Is there a way to check it?
