Tivo refurbished box swap fubar had me confused

I spent an hour trying to figure out what Tivo did-
My #1 Premiere with lifetime service was purchased off Ebay in April- #2 Premier with a $6.95/mo plan was purchased at the same time and both were transferred to my acct in the same week. ( I have a Series 2 on Lifetime, too)
After a month I realized that Tivo #2 had flaky tuners for OTA, so I called and the Tivo rep in the PI told me she would suspend billing for 2 months and told me to call tech support for help.
