Why connect new Bolt before upgrading to 1TB or 2TB drive?

I jumped on the S3 to Bolt lifetime transfer for $99 deal for two new 500GB Bolts. Now I'm only going to upgrade them to 1TB (WD10JUCT) and 2TB (WD20NPVZ) drives so it should be plug-n-play simple.

In the past, I've always connected new TiVos with their original drive in them to do the guided setup prior to upgrading to a larger drive. After putting the larger drive in them, I end up having to do most of the guided setup - with the exception of the CableCard pairing - all over again....
