I have a tivo HD (7 years old last weekend according to tivo.com) hooked up to cable, a Samsung tv (probably 5 years old), and a WD external hard drive (also around 5 years old).
Recently the tv signal has been briefly disappearing-- usually the screen goes black briefly, and then comes back (with the input info. that usually shows up only when the tv is first turned on). We have been trying to figure out if the problem is with the cable signal, with the tivo, or with the tv (something similar seems to have been reported with some Samsung tvs but it's unclear how real/relevant that is).
In the last week or so it has gotten much worse-- to the point where it can be like watching a show in stop motion. However, we did not notice the problem using roku, so that, plus the fact that the tivo is the oldest component, and perhaps the most likely to fail from age, is making me wonder if these are symptoms of a failing hard drive.
Does anyone have experience/advice with this? I think our last tivo just up and died all at once, not slowly. Does the external hard drive change anything-- ISTR once they are married if one goes they both go?
thanks
