new TV, old Toshiba Tivo

I have an old Toshiba RSTX20 still operational in my guest bedroom. The TV in there recently died and I replaced it with a new cheap 32" LCD from a Black Friday deal. Problem is, none of the remote codes work for that TV. In an effort to avoid using the TV remote for on/off/volume and the peanut for other functions, I have the following question:



If I buy a newer type remote with updated codes and/or learning capability, will it still be able to control my ancient Toshiba Tivo box? If so, suggestions on WHICH newer remote?
