Newsroom/State of Affairs/Homeland - crossover idea and show discussion

Some background on the shows first:

  • Newsroom - shows a CNN like TV news network that collects daily news stories and vets them and then communicates them to their customer the American people.

  • State of Affairs - deals with daily threat assessments. They are collected by analysts then vetted and rolled up to briefing leads to communicate to the various agencies, one of which is the president.

  • Homeland is currently dealing with a station chief who conducts operations and threat data and rolls it up the CIA chain.

Newsroom is currently dealing with a leaker that has given them thousands of pages of classified information. The CIA is sewing the Newsroom ACN news network for the identity of the leaker.

It seams that with the Newsroom storyline we have a perfect trifecta that could be passed on to the other shows. Unfortunately this wont happen explicitly as:

  • Newsroom is owned by HBO and Time Warner

  • State of Affairs is owned by NBC and Comcast

  • Homeland is owned by Showtime and CBS.

Newsroom is currently discussing from the News network ACN point of view about showing CIA leaked data that some of which lead to the killing of 38 people in another country.

If this crossover happened it seems logical that State of Affairs would discuss the governments side of the story and how they handle the leak and its danger.

Homeland could show what would happen if the CIA station chief and other persons names get leaked.

TMZ noted this morning that State of Affairs shows the briefing agent (Katherine Heigl) actually going to the white house and talking to the president on a daily basis. In reality they consider that group to have such a dangerous job that they do not do that but load up a tablet and have it dead dropped at an in between location and that tablet is picked up and given to the president for daily briefing. This way they keep the CIA agency individuals a secret.

Unfortunately I think the idea is probably too much heavy lifting for Katherine Heigl but I do think it would nice to have a counterpoint to Newsroom shown on the other shows.
