Series with season long plot arcs

I've seen a thread on this, but would like to inquire regarding more recent series.

I'm looking for recommendations for a series with a compelling season long plot/arc. Something will want me to keep watching. It can be on DVD or On Demand or Netflix.....it doesn't matter.

Mostly, I'm looking for something to keep me engaged and wanting to come back to find out what will happen next. I'm not into sci fi/fantasy or real "period dramas" so much, but would consider them if they're really good.

Examples of series that fall into that category for me are:

Breaking Bad (saw them all over a six month period, then need to wait til the final season!). Best of this kind, for me, so far.

Homeland....another series that keeps you wanting more and has me saying "what do you mean it's over already?"...at the end of each episode.

Six Feet Under also falls into that category for me, even though it wasn't as dramatic/action/thriller oriented as the above, but I loved the series.

Sopranos, of course! Damages, which I've also seen.

Shameless, somewhat falls into that category. I love the show, but the episodes are as compelling as the ones above.

I've read the The Shield would be good, as well as The Wire.

I've also read that Veronica Mars is good, but I have absolutely no idea what that's about and, right or wrong, the title sort of turns me off. Is it worth watching? And, why?

I've heard that Sons of Anarchy and American Horror Story might be good. Perhaps The Following? I'm not looking for anything with a lot of gratuitous violence, but I don't mind violence (given that I loved many of the shows above.

Any and all suggestions appreciated! Thanks.
