Major annoyances from a new Tivo'er

This is long but bear with me.:eek:

Basically we just switched to RCN with a Tivo Premier Quad (4 tuners) and 2 Tivo Minis. We have a ton of annoyances with TiVo that we didn't have with our Time Warner setup. It's like the front-end of Time Warner stunk, but the back-end was more robust. Since TiVo is supposed to be a more advanced DVR, we would like to see these "features" as standard.

First thing we noticed, there is no clock on any of the TiVo boxes. WHYYY is this? Every cable box I have ever had, they all had clocks. When I asked a TiVo tech lady about this, she told me that users asked for them to remove the clocks. To me that's quite a stupid move, why not just include an OPTION to disable the clock rather than take the whole clock away? That way it's available for people like us that like the clock. Anyway... more money spent on Amazon solved this issue for the most part. Moving along....

Here's the biggy.

There is no option to easily cancel a recording from a Tivo Mini when scheduled recordings/or another mini make use of all the main box's tuners. Without warning, the main box will yank a user from watching Live TV on a Mini-box.

Here's an example of what happens. We record a bunch of Season Passes... my mother will be watching Live TV in her bedroom. All of a sudden an evil box appears: SORRY CANNOT WATCH LIVE TV.. The Living Room DVR is using all tuners. Please watch a recording.

To her, it's as if an evil TiVo Demon magically appeared and instantly shut off her programme. Once this evil box comes up, there is no way to easily disable one of the recordings in order to keep watching Live TV. She yells and is annoyed and I have to run over and try to hunt through the menus and disable one of the shows from MY SHOWS that is recording. Then I need to wait a minute or two for the tuner to become available for the Mini in her bedroom. That's unacceptable, this shouldn't happen, an option should come up to prioritize the Live TV you are watching over the recording. For example, "Warning... the Living Room DVR is about to use this tuner to record XYZ show, do you want to disable this recording and continue to watch Live TV....?"

3rd.

The main Tivo Boxes aren't making efficient use of the tuners when you choose to record AND watch the same tv programme.

Here's the deal. If I record a program and choose to watch that same program on a mini with what Tivo calls "Live Tv", two tuners are necessary. This really makes no sense because only one tuner should be needed if a program is being recorded AND watched. Sometimes we don't have enough free tuners to record & watch the program.

For example, we record The Bachelor. Sometimes my mother still will watch it while it's being recorded on her Tivo Mini. If there aren't two tuners available to do this, it'll yank her out of "Live TV" like I explained above. After she yells for help, the only fix is on her Mini to go to "My Shows", find the Bachelor (that is currently being recorded), go to Play and fast-forward it all the way to the present moment. At that point, it's basically the same as watching live tv (just not in TiVo jargon) and we only need one tuner. But jumping through those hoops shouldn't be required.

With non-Tivo DVRs what happens in that situation is that that you are restricted to that channel (with options to disable another recording if you should want to change channels regardless).

Sorry for the length.
