serial number mapped to motherboard?

So I purchased a Premiere off EBay with lifetime. It seems that the serial number on the back of the unit does not match the serial numbers within the TiVo menus. I assume the serial number is associated with the main board? My guess that someone swapped the guts of the unit? Thoughts?
