Replacing a bad drive in a Tivo HD with a Tivo Series 3 drive

I have a Tivo HD (TCD652160) with a failing drive that has a lifetime subscription. I have a Tivo Series 3 (TCD648250B) that was given to me that has a good drive in it. Can I just swap out the drive?

I am eventually going to get a new drive. I have instant cake, so I can set it up.

Can I use the good drive temporarily until the new drive arrives?
