This is regarding a Tivo Premiere XL.
This morning, I turned on my TV to my Tivo, and I was told an update was being applied. I went away for about an hour, and when I came back, the screen was all black. I tried power cycling my TV, but noticed it was working for other inputs like DVD and our game system.
Now, when I power-cycle the Tivo, I get the "Welcome! Starting up " message for a couple of minutes, but then the screen goes dark and then I get a frozen mostly white screen with perhaps a repeating horizontal and vertical pattern of darker dots. It isn't as random as "snow". There is also a solid black box taking up almost the entire upper left corner of the screen, that appears to be exactly the proportions of 4 units high to 9 units across. This is on my TV's HDMI/DVI input.
The TV works normally on the other inputs and the "Welcome! Starting up " message displays normally. When I press the Tivo button, I don't hear it's normal friendly chime, so I believe the Tivo has actually crashed vs not merely displaying correctly.
Help?
