Upgrading Premiere 320MB to 2TB - update TiVo software first?

I picked up a used Premiere with lifetime service on Ebay. It came with an upgraded 2TB that failed all the Kickstart 54 tests. I think it might have gotten damaged in shipping. The user also included the original 320MB Premiere hard drive. Assuming this original drive is OK, do I need to put it in the TiVo and update the TiVo software to the latest version before I use the JMFS tools to copy it to my new 2TB drive? I just want to make sure that there aren't any issues with older software where it can't handle large drives or anything.
