Volume stops working after a month or so

My TiVo Roamio remote volume controls for my receiver stop working about a month after I put in new batteries. But everything else on the TiVo remote still works - still can power on and off the TV and receiver (through IR) and control the TiVo (RF). This is incredibly annoying and I'm trying to figure out what to do about it so I don't go through 24 batteries a year with my TiVo remote.
