Tivo Series 4/Elite CableCard / V52 error with strange results during troubleshooting

Tivo Series 4/Elite with M-Card

During the workday Monday it seemed to stop recording for no known reason. Upon returning home I got a V52 error on all channels, local, HD, everything. Called Comcast and they sent signals to the cablecard on Monday, nothing worked so I set up an appointment for Wednesday. Tuesday I got a call and they said they resolved the problem, I tested it and there was no difference.

Wednesday the Comcast reps who showed up were zero help- they had no idea what they were doing and they didn’t get anywhere- for instance, I requested a CableCard swap and they had no CableCards with them.

Friday a second rep showed up and tried everything, the signal was testing fine, the wire and connections all seemed to be fine. We tested three new CableCards and ended with one new one. No change. We spent 90 minutes reviewing this and eventually he said that the Tivo was at fault.

During this week my Tivo was receiving guide updates and could connect to the internet with no issues.

Sunday I unplugged the Tivo and hooked it up to another TV via an AV Receiver, this time I got VERY strange results.

1. All channels were “Visible” but no signal, HOWEVER I got the subtitles from news and other tv shows displaying on my screen when attempting live TV including cable news.

2. I could not play anything- I got the HDMI/HDCP error.

a. I don’t believe I’ve ever received that error before on this Tivo

3. I hooked up the Tivo to my AV Receiver via Component video and that “Worked” I could get 40% of the channels, but many channels received very strange errors

a. I could view all broadcast channels

b. I could view some non-broadcast public access channels

c. The Weather Channel received “This channel is not authorized… (V58).” Clearly this is in error- most basic cable channels received this

d. The subtitles that were visible earlier are no longer visible

e. All HD channels received V52 errors

4. Borrowing an old Tivo without a subscription, I could see all these channels (but not record them as it doesn have a subscription)

a. I did not attempt to switch cable cards between those tivo boxes

Does this sound like a Tivo error or is this a Comcast error? What should my next steps be?
