I did not see the previous season, but having watched tonights first two episodes (of this three-night "event") I have come here to say GO WATCH THIS!
It's a send-up of 1930s Film Noir, but written by an idiot who thinks he's clever (and reminds one of Orson Welles). Horrible dialog, cardboard sets with toy cars, and serious overacting make it just wonderfully hilarious.
"I'm worse than that."
"What?"
"I'm a Jazz musician."
There's one scene where the actor (who I should know but can't place) playing the morgue attendant simply repeats the same line about a half dozen times with different inflections every time, like he was trying to figure out which version he liked better and the director simply left them all in.
I know. It sounds stupid. But it's stupid in a funny way, a way that lets you laugh at the stupid.
