I was pretty interested in this show seeing it has a lofty 90 on metacritic. Comparisons to Louie abound in the reviews. My expectations were somewhat high.
What did everyone think?
I for one thought it exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would say it's primarily a drama, but the bountiful comedic elements are blended seamlessly in, and so is some of the social commentary. The writing displayed a really deft hand at mixing those three aspects. While I love Louie and it still might be the better show to me, it can be disjointed. It clearly transitions between modalities (here's some plot, now we are switching to absurdism, etc.). This show is a lot smoother so far.
